Can it be any more obvious. Both are mormons. Both are virgins. Both are "the nice guys. Both will annoy everyone in the house.
Both will Bore me.
Chet= Matt 2.0
I also picked that up from the previews and commercials for the show. I actually said he'd probably be a combo of Matt and Julie, since he's Mormon. I don't think Matt was Mormon, was he? I know he was very religious, though, so he and Chet are alike in that way. Besides the other things you said, he also seems to have some kind of quirky hipness to him (or so he thinks) like Matt did. And I can see him being some kind of "fish out of water" type in a way that Julie was when it comes to getting to know people with different backgrounds.

Matt wasn't Mormon, he was Catholic. But I do think Chet is Matt 2.0 lol. Chet kinda looks like Matt and he's very religious. I liked Matt alot, because he was a good person, although he's an outcast many times. Chet is really cool so far and I think he'll be one of my favorites this season.
They sound alike too. He will probably suck on one challenge too.
But i do like how it seems like the guys will cause drama.
Anyone else notice that lately the guys have been the drama ******
Joey, "he who shall not be named," Will and prom the preveiws JD, Matt and Ryan
Still no idea who the ***k scott is. As he looks to be this seasons wall flower.
I met Matt, oh gosh, I guess that was about six years ago. We got to hang out and talk for a little bit before a Relient K concert (one of my close friends at the time had dragged me to this church gym to see this band I had never heard of- imagine my surprise when I ran into Matt from The Real world and then years later when suddenly, Relient K was famous).
I get a similar, but different vibe from Chet based solely on previews for the show - while both have very strong faiths, Chet doesn't seem to be as respectful of others as Matt was in New Orleans (i.e. the rat incident that the previews allude to). On the flip side, however, I think Matt's quietness pushed him into the background a little bit more in New Orleans; I have a feeling we'll be seeing quite a bit of Chet in Brooklyn.

Yes, I would need to be far more obvious for me to buy into it, but then I've met him and seen nearly an hour of video with him so my impressions are substantially more experiential than yours. There are so many differences between Chet and Matt that are obvious to me, but the two most noticeable to me are his post-show relationship with his roomates and with prior season cast members. He is very socially engaging and people like to have him around, so you can pitch out the idea that he will "annoy" the other cast any more than always happens to everyone at least once in such close quarters -- it's a staple of the genre. Also, he will be much more engaging than Matt, and even surprising at times, on the show. Just because he is morally averse to hooking up, doesn't mean stuff doesn't happen to him that is worth watching. It does.
I vote for Chet 1.0. He at least deserves that much respect prior to the first episode, in my opinion.
[Sorry that he will bore you. Nice way to introduce yourself to us in a new thread, by the way.]

Matt actually was a good competitor on The Gauntlet from what I remember. It's just that he came across as holier-than-thou to some of his teammates and rubbed them the wrong way with some of his comments (i.e. he made some remark about women who get **** jobs, etc), so it made him a voting off target. He wrote a bit about the Awards Bash when it happened, and he said his teammates apologized for what happened on that challenge.
Chet seems to be the most interesting cast member to me so far, from what I've seen (and that's the previews and the clip of when he and Devyn met up).
Wow, I thought Chet was going to be one of the more interesting people this season.
tj, at this point you have a few options. You can buy into MizFit2009's newbie view of Chet, you can be informed for what Bacchus and I have written here, or you can hold off until you see his edit tonight. Personally, I know of nothing to suggest that he is NOT one of the more interesting people this season, just as you had thought.

Oh, I know he'll be interesting. I am just shocked others think he might be "boring".
After watching episode one, in addition to the Matt and Julie combo I was getting from him, I also feel like there could be a little smidge of the earliest view of RW Philadelphia Landon in him as well. There seems to be a little goofiness to him (and I mean it in a good, likable way).
They look alike, yes. But other than that, Chet is much more secure and confident than Matt was.
Beyond the "weirdness" and virginity I don't see much in common between the two personality wise. Chet seems to bring a bit more to the table, although I was never much of a Matt fan.
Physically they both are kind of similar thin, blonde and they both dress eccentrically, but besides that they have different personalities. Besides being Mormon, I dont see so much of a similarity between the two (besides the physical aspects)
Matt is not Mormon. Julie was the Mormon cast member. That's one of the reasons I feel Chet comes off as a mixture of Matt AND Julie. That and because of potentially awkward social situations for him and a "fish out of water" thing I mentioned earlier. But that's just by first impressions.
I actually think that Matt did good on The Gauntlett, on an athletic level that is. What he did wrong was some of the comments he made which pissed people off and that's why he ended up being sent into the gauntlett and well who was gonna defeat Gauntlett Queen Sarah? Specially when production was determined to make her the Gauntlett Queen by favoring her in the way they handled some of the gauntletts, specially the one in which she went up against Theo in the bull riding thing and his was clearly going a lot faster than hers.

Yep, I said something similar to that on one of these pages (minus the Sarah stuff). I thought it was interesting he said some of his teammates from The Gauntlet apologized to him during the Awards Bash about voting him off.

He was one of his team's strongest players on the Gauntlet. Some people didn't want him to go in because they said he was a main element on the team. Others thought that since he was strong he would go in the gauntlet and win. Unfortunately that was not the case. I respected Matt alot in that Gauntlet, because even though he lose he had great spirit to go over to Sarah and hug and congratulate her, which many of her teamates didn't do.
Coral could have probably beaten her. Maybe Miz and Alton too (but I think girl vs guy elimination rounds are unfair).
Did Theo's bull really go faster?
Getting off topic here, but I thought most of the gauntlets were based on luck and any given person could have possibly won. Except it may have been harder for heavier people to hold on in things like the hanging gauntlets. I wouldn't feel comfortable saying anyone could have won. Better competitors than Sarah lost, etc. I am very happy Sarah won each gauntlet, though, even though RW lost some cool people (and I was rooting for them). Matt was definitely a better competitor than her and he lost. I am religious and respect Matt's religious background, however, I did think he was making comments that were offensive and understand how some of them could have been upset. But I don't think he should have been voted off based on performance. At least back then, people paid more attention to performance than friendships and having alliances, so it felt more wrong for him to be voted off. So I'm glad some of them apologized.
This was a long time ago but the recollection I have is that it did. Although wait I think I'm confussed. Theo's bull went a lot faster when he went up against Cara and therefore Cara won. I do remember having read I think it was on Miz's website that the bull also went faster for Rachel when she went up against Sarah.

Yes, you are off topic, not that I'm a fan of where this thread started.
It just got off topic from responding to a comment made in the beginning thread - in a reference to Matt and Chet being alike, there was a Gauntlet mention. It was not intentional for me or anyone else, I'm sure, to try and redesign the thread into something else.

No need to defend or explain. It's just my job to get keep the threads on track.
Moving on...
Other boards are having similar discussions comparing Matt and Chet. Opinion everywhere remains divided.
I really like Chet and I really liked Matt. However, while both look similar to an extent and are religous there are differences between them. Chet is a little more outgoing and is a prankster. Matt was a little quieter and more reserved. It didn't mean Matt was boring because he wasn't. I really liked BOTH of them alot. People can have simalaraties, but at the end of the day everyone is different. I vote for Both of them.:)
