Viacom/Time Warner contract

This morning while watching VH1 I caught that on my tv about the whole deal....too many of my favorite channels are gonna get axed and I'll have to hurt someone lol
The most effective thing one can probably do is to both email your cable company and call them as well today and every day to say that you are going to move to DirecTV or Dish if you lose your favorite channels. The more your company hears from you, the more motivated they will become. Demand a refund for missing you favorite channels as well. For those whose cable systems are regulated by local governments, call them and email the mayor, aldermen, commissioners, etc. Demand action from them -- because you are someone who votes -- and will remember what they did or didn't do -- come the next election. Local governments have influence over cable operators and can, when motivated, get sufficiently ugly with the cable execs, which is exactly what you want to have happen.
The channels that would be affected are: Comedy Central, CMT: Pure Country, Logo, Palladia, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, MTV Tr3s, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic, and VH1 Soul. The "good news" for those who own stock in either company is that Timewarner will not only eventually play ball, they will pass on the rate increase to customers along with a similar hike of their own and blame the entire increase on Viacom. That is how it always goes down... Both companies shares were up in yesterday's trading, so I guess it is a win-win situation!

Aaagh! I never thought I'd say it but I'm sooo glad I have Charter cable!! LOL At least today. I'd be majorly ticked if I was losing all of those! :(
Not quite sure how widespread this is, but looks like Los Angeles area Time Warner customers could lose access to Viacom networks as of January 1st if a contract isn't resolved by the end of 2008
Just wanted to clarify that I misread the LA Times article and assumed it meant only the LA area TW customers would be affected but I should have paid attention to the fact that it was an LA based newspaper simply pointing out how many households in that area would be affected. But this will affect Time Warner customers nationwide. According to the Associated Press: "The nation's second-largest cable operator primarily serves customers in New York state, the Carolinas, Ohio, Southern California and Texas."
Yeah, I am very upset about this...I read this post and it seems to me that Viacom is being stingy (less than a penny a day...yeah PER CUSTOMER)..BUT I don't really understand the business so I couldn't say anything informed, LOL... Time Warner Cable To Lose Viacom’s MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon & Comedy Central In NY, LA, Everywhere

For instance, there are a number of local stations currently not broadcasting on Dish Network because they, like Viacom, want more per subscriber - which is ironic being you can get these same signals over the air. This carriage fee war goes on everyday... Basically, all the players want a piece of our earnings pie and the price of television continues to rise astronomically. If Viacom wants 25 cents those 15 channels, why then won't they let Time Warner offer ala cart packages at 1.66 cents per channel? Nope, not how it works. Big media companies such as Viacom mandate an all or nothing deal. You have to take all (or almost all) their channels at the package rate in the contract as a carrier or you get none. That is why I have 250 channels of junk and maybe 15 channels worth watching (and my satellite bill has gone up 60% in 6 years.) So there is not a clear "bad guy" in this scenario because both the carrier and the content providers are the enemy when it comes to your pocket book.
That makes sense, thanks B. I am still gonna be sad without those channels though...the worst part is that I can't get the Dish or Direct TV...they don't really get good signals in my apartments.
I am still gonna be sad without those channels though...the worst part is that I can't get the Dish or Direct TV...they don't really get good signals in my apartments.
Don't worry, this stuff usually only lasts for a few days and will be quietly reflected in your next bill. :D
In other words they will settle soon?
Yes, but probably not before the Sunday Charm School reunion show or RW Brooklyn and its casting precursor show.
Yes, but probably not before the Sunday Charm School reunion show or RW Brooklyn and its casting precursor show.
great
great
Exactly what I said when I saw that but I have hope it can be resolved.....at least none of the channels have gone blank on my end yet.

Damn, that was fast. They must have all still been drunk or too hungover to want to negotiate.
