My desktop crashed...my sisters laptop crashed and my laptop charger AND battery...as well as my husband's have ******* out. I bought a new charger when mine broke but then my hubby stole it when his broke, LOL. I have the worst computer (and car) luck. Hope you are running Firefox now though ColiesMom :)
I'm not sure if this has been posted but here is a link on how to download the patch for Internet Explorer. It seems like Microsoft acted quickly on something for once. I advice everyone to download it if they are still using Internet Explorer. IE hack patch is out

Although, this "fix" is quite similar to tying a rubber band around the trigger guard of a loaded gun and saying, "It is safe now. Feel free to continue playing with it kids..." ;) Yes I'm a hater. So?

Just trying to help those who haven't heard of the patch.
I appreciate it hpkhg! :)
Wait, so you can't install any software on your computer at work, yet are allowed to patch critical operating system files? Interesting. :D

My 'work' computer that I brought home to work on (because my home desktop sucks and is too slow) just crashed. It's freakin' new too. I got hit with a trojan on Facebook (I was using an app that I always use and didn't click on any ads or links). And I used Firefox (all the pop-up were coming in under IE though). I did a scan but then my computer froze, couldn't even ctrl alt del. I had to power off and now it won't boot up. Can't get past the "Welcome" screen. I'm glad I did a back up this morning. Still pissed about it though.

I now only have the ones that come when you first sign up (i.e. wall) and a Red sox app because I couldn't hold back. I deny/ignore 10-15 apps a day (and do the same with events.) I wish there was a setting that said, NO APPS. Facebook is much better sans apps and much safer too.

I'm going to have to bring her in to the pc doc because she won't even boot in safe mode. It's damn cold out -30C (not even mentioning the wind chill factor) and I'm not looking forward to going outside.

Bacchus! Help! I think I got rid of the virus but... I think it's still there, it's hijacking my ability to link to lavasoft. com to download Adware. I don't know how to check my settings to see if lavasoft is on the deny list. I have no idea what's going on. I google "Adware download" I try to click on the link for lavasoft Ad-aware 2008 and I get Cyber Defender, Aliant and University of Phoenix. when I type lavasoft.com in the address bar, I get .... Failed to Connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at lavasoft.com. Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection. * Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later. * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection. * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing. What is Chrome? Someone told me to switch to that saying it was the new Firefox? Were they messing with me? Should I still bring the PC in to get checked (they told me it could take days because they were busy)?
Sounds like the malware has hijacked your browser to stop itself from being deleted. Try this link: Ad-Aware 2008 from Download.com Chrome is good and by google, but doesn't have all the addons that I love about firefox (currently.)
Thanks B, that worked. I was able to download it but it's still hijacked so I'm bringing her in to the professionals.
Thanks B, that worked. I was able to download it but it's still hijacked so I'm bringing her in to the professionals.
Give hijack this a shot. Download. Run system scan. Check off everything. Click - fix. Reboot. That should stop all the creepy crawlies from starting up with your system and also remove them as browser objects.
Bacchus, what does this mean? I got it on a popup when FF restarted after freezing up and me having to unplug the computer and remove the battery... XML Parsing Error: no element found Location: chrome://mozapps/content/update/updates.xul Line Number 1, Column 1:
XML Parsing Error: no element found Location: chrome://mozapps/content/update/updates.xul Line Number 1, Column 1:
It just means there is no information in the pop-up you are receiving. Maybe a spyware app is trying to launch a pop-up and something else is blocking that information. Could be a number of things. The error itself is nothing to be concerned about.
I need help. I keep getting tons of pop up ads. Under the options tab the box to block pop ups is checked and there are no exceptions made. Is there anything else I can do to stop the annoying pop up ads? Thanks in Advance
Sounds like you have some sort of malware. I'd run through a windows defender scan and install adblock plus.
Bacchus---help! Firefox 3.0 will NOT let me add extensions. Specifically I'm trying to ad the Diigo toolbar extension and the extension Firebug. Everytime I try it says: Firefox could not install the file at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/44490/firebug-1.3.0-fx.xpi because: Unexpected installation error Review the Error Console log for more details. -203 Tried googling it but am not sure what it means.....do you know why it won't let me add anything on? I need these for my web programming class and have to get this to work...
Are you installing it from here by clicking on add to firefox? I love firebug. Use it all day, everyday.
