Desperate Housewives: Season 4 - Episode Discussion
Was the five-year leap a giant step forward for "Desperate Housewives"? Not in my book. But last night's season premiere did set some plot wheels in motion that could carry the ladies of Wisteria Lane to some intriguing places. Although for now, I would settle for anything that would jolt them out of their character cul-de-sacs, and there wasn't enough movement on that front for my tastes. Not yet, anyway. So five years have passed, what's up with our gals? Well, Gabby is fat. Or at least, Gabby's version of fat. Which is actually just a little plump. Also, she and Carlos have two girls, one of whom is quite a chunk. Look forward to some juicy issues there, judging by Gabby's decision to get daughter Juanita to exercise by making the little girl run after Mommy's car. Oh Gabby, you are still so wrong about so many things, but also so entertaining Which is more than we can say for Susan, who has grown thinner and more grim since she and Mike killed a mother and daughter in a car accident. Though the accident was not their fault, Susan couldn't live with the guilt, so she and Mike split up. Now he sees their son on the weekends and she is sleeping with her house painter. Amazingly enough, a somber Susan is just as irritating as the flighty, klutzy Susan. Who could have predicted that? Less surprising are Bree and Lynette, who haven't changed much at all. Even if their circumstances have. When Danielle came to reclaim her baby, Bree threw herself into her catering company, and now she has become the Martha Stewart clone she always wanted to be. Too bad she appropriated so many of Katherine's recipes in the process. I'm looking forward to more Katherine-Bree showdowns, but I wish this whole plot line was more of a surprise. The same goes for Lynette, who is still saddled with stories in which she has to trick Tom into paying attention to their kids. That's been old for years now. Oh, Felicity, when will they give you something interesting to do? Speaking of the Scavo kids, where did they all go, anyway? Last night, it was all about Parker and Preston, who are now exactly the kind of 16-year-old hellions we figured they'd be. But what about the other kids? Don't they have at least two more, if not three? Where are they? Is Marc Cherry hoping we will become so sick of Lynette and her same old stories that we don't notice? Well, congrats! It's just been one episode, and I'm almost there already. And finally, there is Edie, who is back in the Wisteria Lane fold with a creepy husband (the always-chilling Neal McDonough) who is not only in the neighborhood for scary reasons of his own, he also has Edie baking muffins. Now that is terrifying. So what did you think? Did the Housewives reboot make you want to bake a cherry pie in celebration? Or will you be joining me on the white picket fence until these new plot lines actually generate some new movement on the character front? Or are you just glad Mrs. McCluskey is back? I was not impressed with the flash forward, I believe it was meant to keep viewers entertained but it did exactly the opposite for me. I really liked Gabby the way she was..same with Susan and Mike! Edie's husband is a bit creepy looking, I wonder who it is that he is tied into on Wisteria Lane?

The only saving grace might be Teri Hatcher in the Susan Mayer role. The much improved her makeup and lighting -- especially the bedroom scenes. I thought she looked fantastic. Too bad her plot line is so weak.

It may not be a show I absolutely have to see when it airs like Heroes and Fringe, but I will DVR it and watch it when I have time. Susan did look very good this episode, they must have stepped it up in the lighting department...and it is quite amusing to see the roles reversed with her boytoy where he wants a meaningful relationship and she doesn't, LOL.
I volunteer to have a meaningless relationship with Teri Hatcher. ;)
Is she the one you think looks the best out of all of the DH women??
Is she the one you think looks the best out of all of the DH women??
It's hard to say... Teri definitely is the only one I feel any personally chemistry toward, but that probably is because I've met her a couple of times, once at Jamba Juice on Beverly Dr. in LA by my attorney's office, and once on a airplane between JFK and LAX several years ago. She was very friendly to me and asked about my Sundance Film Festival bag. During the flight she was very kind to a couple of young fans (back in the the pre 9/11 era) who came forward into business class to ask for her autograph. She actually shooed away a flight attendant who tried to intercept them. I mentioned to her that it was a very nice thing for her to have done and she replied something like "I'm going to be an old actress much too soon, and I'm going to need every fan I can get." I was hard not to like her for that view alone. Here is something I hope she does not do much of, but it was for a charity, so she gets a pass from me... I can't see the video right now :(, but I do remember when she did that...I never did watch it though, LOL.
Anyone else still tuning in to watch this season?
I still watch every week. This season is not the best, in fact it's kind of getting into the slump that was season 2. Although season 2 had a really good finale, so I can only hope for the same here. Let's hope for season 6 to be another comeback season.

Next weeks looks pretty funny. I'm rooting for her to get away with it all, since I just can't stand Orson anymore.

Any place to discuss this in general? I just started watching from season 1 and I love it! I'm on episode 15, I think. Susan is my favorite, and I like Lynette as well. Of course I'm still on the first season so that may change. I have a lot of catching up to do :).

I was skeptical, then got bored one day and decided to see what it was about and was instantly hooked. The first season I loved the Van De Kamp family, Bree was just hilarious. One of my favorite lines will always be: "Rex cries after he **********." The situation and the way she says it.. hilarious.

I guess I don't really dislike any of them, including Edie, but Gabriella is so selfish. I smell trouble from George...
Yeah season 1 is a great season, just don't spoil yourself...let it play out on its own.

I still don't know whats going on and I don't understand the spoilers until I have seen the episode. I'm looking forward to that five year leap thing because I want to see what those twins look like when they grow up.

I was thinking about season 5's less than stellar finale.. and I realized. How can it be Susan or Katherine? All the women were sitting in the aisles. If it were one of those two women, wouldn't Lynette, Bree, and Gabby be bridesmaids and/or maid of honor? Even if it were Katherine, I really believe Bree would at least be a bridesmaid. Unless it is one of them and they chose their dauggter (Julie or Dylan) but even then, I feel like the other women should be involved. That's my rant, I really hope next season picks up.

I haven't finished season 4 yet....but I have seen most of it on lifetime so I just fast forward through most of it. I heard five was good...I don't know. I just don't like Katherine.

Her character and mystery during season 4 was amazing. I felt it was the best since the Mary Alice/Paul mystery.

And in season five, she dates Mike? BARF! Susan is a flake but her and Mike are made for each other. He makes up for her flakiness. Season 1 was gold, and even though I'm only part-way through season four (I have seen bits and pieces and so I do know what happens the Dylan mystery) but nothing will ever compare to season 1 so far. I'm dying to get to the five year jump! When season six comes on, we'll have to make a separate thread since nobody seems to like the show on here. How about Lynette and the child molester? That would have been a good storyline if they didn't drop it!

It was very creepy and acting was great. What do you think the best episode was? Everyone usually says the tornado, which was great and had a crazy cliffhanger but, I believe the Supermarket holdup was amazing. Laurie Metcalfe was amazing.

The supermarket one was amazing but I couldn't stand Kayla's mother. Is Laurie Metcalfe Jesse's mom? Oh and I think Gabby and Carlos belong together but Gabby and John would have been cute.

I spelled Laurie's last name wrong, by bad, her's doesn't have the e. She will always be Aunt Jackie from Roseanne to me tho. I agree, Gabby and Carlos are good, I just wish he did more. I also wish they would utilize Andrew Van De Kamp more.
