The Real World: Brooklyn (Season 21)
MTV has sent out a press release stating that the latest incarnation of the franchise "The Real World" will be filming its 21st season in Brooklyn, New York (specifically the hipster Williamsburg neighborhood.) This will be the 3rd season in New York coming off of a repeat season in Los Angeles. We can only assume that at this point nobody else wants them (or it is just too cheap to pass up filming on home turf.) The cast has already been notified and filming will commence in July. Supposedly production was seeking out applicants that displayed activism (political or otherwise) and I can confirm that this is indeed the case from the perspective cast members that I have become aware of during the selection process. The Real World Hollywood as been a great comeback season for Bunim/Murray Productions and if they take the lessons learned and apply them forward I think that we can expect another quality product to surface in early winter 2009.
Santa Monica, CA, May 13, 2008 – Riding high on the successful launch of an accelerated, action-packed 13-week episode cycle with more favorite Real World drama packed into 1-hour episodes, MTV has greenlit the hit reality series for a 21st season. Production will move from the west coast to the east coast as Bunim-Murray Productions begins shooting in Brooklyn, NY this summer. Continuing with the new format of expanding the episodes to one-hour, the network has ordered 12 episodes of “The Real World: Brooklyn” which is scheduled to premiere in Q1 2009. “The Real World: Hollywood” captivates viewers on-air as MTV is the #1 network in the Wednesday 10-11pm time period among P12-34 and online as more than 3 million fans have accessed The Real World Dailies (Real World Dailies - Real World Dailies | Homepage) for never-before-seen production moments. Brookyln is whack to me now but oh well. I'm esctatic. Here's hoping they do Baton Rouge.
I actually had the inside scoop on this last week, but kept it close to the vest. I didn't think it would be outed this early. I PM'd EastNY this weekend as I wanted pictures (but he did not get back to me.) I guess he can still take some for us. ;)

I love how Parisa keeps in touch with her fans. Some of the older cast members don't.
I hear that the cast is being notified this week. The good news is that we actually know a few of them from our Real World 21 Casting Thread (although I have put their posts in moderation at their request - i.e. BMP told them they better get the posts removed if they want a chance at being cast.)

Wow, Brooklyn, not what I expected but cool! We need to put a street team together (headed by Parisa and EastyNY) to get the scoop as it happens!! :D
I hear that the cast is being notified this week. (or will they disappear into oblivion?)
Wonder if they will be around to chat if they do not get cast though??? (or will they disappear into oblivion?)
The thing is, BMP doesn't generally cast fans of the show. So most of the people that stopped by here who were actively trying to get on The Real World might have only watched passively over the years and could care less what happens now, if they are not on it. As for those that were cast, I was told that Get Real Denver was blocked from the house during that season, so I suspect Vevmo might very well blocked during filming this upcoming season.

I havn't seen a site like that the last couple of seasons......

realworldaustin.com was so ***king stupid. they blocked me for no reason. santiago is a ***** and a half. so is mark.

I can't wait for the big "reveal" (by reveal I mean the vevmo one, not the Mtv one, LOL)
The thing is, BMP doesn't generally cast fans of the show.
Well, wasn't Melissa from New Orleans a huge fan (like she'd spend her weekends watching the RW marathons they used to have and knew about every former castmember)? I guess they changed their policies then. And as much as I love NYC, I can't believe they're going there AGAIN. Jon Murray is really trying to get RW back to its roots, no matter how futile that is. We won't have people like Julie, Heather, Norm...or Coral, "The Miz" and Lori on RW ever again.
I love how Parisa keeps in touch with her fans. Some of the older cast members don't.
Well Parisa's still young and probably has a lot of disposable time on her hands compared to the older castmembers. As much as I'd love to hear from NY Julie, I doubt she's going to take time away from her husband and kids to worry about random fans. Unlike Beth S., who, though she's one of the older castmembers she oddly has a lot of time on her hands to respond to fans (even with this marriage coming up). See IAmOnMTV.com for what I mean.

So out of every 25 cast, 1 might be a fan. ;) Most cast members I talk to never even saw the show before they were on it.
Most cast members I talk to never even saw the show before they were on it.
See I dont' buy that. People say that....but unless you've been living under a rock for the last 20 years, I'm sure you've at least seen ONE episode of the real world.....:pardon:

Im gonna get flamed for this but the same thing with shows like Power RRangers and Baywatch. Most of those cast members never even saw the show before being on it. but then again people sin and lie nowadays.

Beth is listed at # 4 on page 15 of 16 of the "most active" listing, page one being the most active. It would seem to me that nearly the entire universe of RW people has been more active than Beth. Frankly, if she has time on her hands, there are a number of projects that need her attention. Beth actually has not been online at iamonmtv.com since the awards show. Her contract with MTV for iamonmtv.com covered only Gauntlet 3 and the Real World Awards Bash. She may have taken her obligations differently than others by planning to be online three times per day on average, early morning, mid-day and evening. Since the awards show, she has returned to interacting with people via her myspace account where she can be decidedly more candid and has content control.

Here is a little Power Ranger trivia for you. The "Ricardo" who appeared on VH-1's "Kept" (Seeking Jerry Hall's attention) is the same Ricardo Medina Jr who played the Red Power Ranger.

Hey East NY, for your next tape, don't mention that you have ever seen an episode...Lie!! You gotta get cast before you are 25 and we are counting on you to apply every season :)
