Another tribal counsel, another bad choice in who to send home during this week's episode of Survivor. I am absolutely astounded that the veteran team does not understand the obvious fact that Cirie is the weakest link ! There is not even a close second. I have said it before and I will say it again: Cirie is in the top 5 all time uber floater Survivors EVAH!
I have a feeling my disdain for her will continue to escalate as next Thursday it looks like we will be once again tortured with a Cirie centric episode. Yawn. I have even been compelled to pull for Penner! That has to say something. He is probably one of the least likable characters that has graced our television sets over the last handful of seasons and yet I am gravitated toward his machinations as they offer the only reprieve from the listless self preservation techniques put forth by Cirie.
Why are they playing the long strategy in episodes 2 and 3? I think the game will have to change drastically before the next installment in order to counter this trend. There was no good reason to send Yau-Man home other then to assure he would not be around 10 episodes from now. He was a strong player and a major advantage to have in all of the mental portions of tribal competition. There needs to be more serious consequences to losing immunity other then sending home your presumptive competition. It should be about strengthening your team so that you don't lose the next immunity challenge.
Maybe when they do reward challenges, instead of everyone being involved, the other team gets to pick 4 players to compete (scaled based on tribe size) and vice versa. That way if you are keeping around a weak bottom tier of players, they will be the ones representing you which would increase the desire to trim the fat. Also, make life on the island a little harder. Actually, a lot harder. The supplies that they currently have make the "surviving" part a moot point. If they had less (no machete, not tarps, no pots etc) then those that actually knew how to survive would be much more valuable. Who would you rather have around in a real survival situation, Yau-Man or Cirie?
Speaking of the reward challenge, I thought it was one of the best that they have had in a long time. Those impacts were awesome! I was surprised that nobody got hurt. Seeing Amanda take a header was priceless. I actually did a freeze frame and then laughed for 5 minutes before continuing.
Overall it was an entertaining episode even if I did not like the outcome. The divisions on the veteran side brought us some great deliberations and beyond the surly antics of Cirie, I found the rest of the squad appetible and engaging.
As for next week's battle between Penner and Cirie, I think I have made it clear which side I am on.
