Contestants will be allowed to play instruments during American Idol 7's Hollywood round
The Hollywood round of American Idol 7's audition process begins this week, and for the first time in the show's history, contestants will be allowed to play instruments when they sing. "We knew Chris Daughtry, Carrie [Underwood] and Bo [Bice] could play the guitar but we really couldn't show it.... Canadian Idol Contestants were allowed to use instruments this past season and it really makes a huge difference in the talent pool. There are pros and cons to this, but in the end I feel it's a great benefit to the viewing audience.

With all of these talent based shows, nothing seems to win over the judges more then a guitar ballad where the contestant sits on a stool on stage. :)
See that's where the cons come in. The judges WILL be looking for the entertainer here...who sings well and plays well and performs. Are they a great singer or just a great guitar player. For instance there was one guy at the beginning of Canadian Idol...without the guitar he was lost. He didn't know how to stand or what to do with his hands. Great player and singer...but without the guitar he was just meh. You'll see a lot more rockers making the audition rounds because lets face it...even an average singer sounds awesome with a guitar (providing they can perform exceptionally well). Personally the thing about American Idol that turns me off and why I don't watch is all the glory notes. I don't freakin' care how high or long you can take a note. Just sing the **** song! Maybe I am just being patriotic but I much prefer Canadian Idol. Our contestants have a very broad range of genre. It's just hard to explain...we just have a different sound in our music and our artists. We still have the same voting problems as the US and I don't see that problem getting fixed until the Executive Producers/Creators decide that money isn't the top priority. It should be run like DWTS...votes limited by land line and ISP addressess.
