Game of Thrones is an American medieval fantasy television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is based on George R. R. Martin's best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, the first of which is called A Game of Thrones. The show's production is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and has also filmed in Malta, Croatia and Iceland. Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise. Its first season was nominated for several awards, including Outstanding Drama Series for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards and Best Television Series – Drama at the 69th Golden Globe Awards; Peter Dinklage also won both ceremonies' Best Supporting Actor award (Emmy and Golden Globes). Other accolades include an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and an Emmy win for Outstanding Main Title Design. The second season is to begin airing in the U.S. on HBO on April 1st, 2012. Like the first season, it will consist of ten episodes. It will approximately cover the subject matter of A Clash of Kings, the second book of the A Song of Ice and Fire

Note: Please do not post any spoilers from the books.

So excited for this to come back!
So excited for this to come back!
The first season was amazing. I am equally excited! I'm hoping we are not the only ones watching and maybe we can have some interesting discussions about this great series.
I've been told multiple times that I should watch it. Maybe I'll give it a try.
I love Game of Thrones. I have seen the last 4 episodes of season 1 at least 5 times each.
I've been told multiple times that I should watch it. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Give it a shot! I will say to give it to at least episode 3. It may seem like a little much at first when you are trying to keep all the families and characters straight but it is well worth the effort. By episode 3 I was hooked! Kind of think of this fantasy world like LOTR mixed with the feeling of Braveheart and some ***** thrown in for good measure because it is HBO after all. ;)
boobs thrown in for good measure because it is HBO after all.
What? They are not "thrown in" - they are critical to the unfolding events! :wink2:
What? They are not "thrown in" - they are critical to the unfolding events! :wink2:
This is true. I do need to know that some of them are prostitues and without seeing them in action it would be very hard to determine their occupation.
This is true. I do need to know that some of them are prostitues and without seeing them in action it would be very hard to determine their occupation.
That's exactly right! In series one, I saw what looked like your average peasant woman. It only became apparent later when her breasts were revealed that she was in fact an enterprising working lady. These type of details in a background sense, do help through a granular nature detail the larger story at hand.

Someone had too much time on their hands and a lot of legos!

The awesome HBO original for comparison:

Hmm... early indications are that "Season 3" will probably end with TRW. But I feel that happened much later in Book 3. I'll have to see what tweaks they do to the story but I'm very excited for this to finally pick back up!
Since this is in the HBO section, I think spoiler tags need to be used when talking about the books. Unless they have read the books, they won't know what TRW means though.
I think they might make the final scene of season 3 either be The Red Wedding or when Lord Beric is revived. I think the 2nd is the more logical one based on the length of the book, but the first one is the better cliff hanger for the season.

Since this is in the HBO section, I think spoiler tags need to be used when talking about the books. That aside, if someone wants to create a thread based on the books - I am all for it.
I agree. I have not read the books and they are spoilers in this thread, so thank you. That aside, if someone wants to create a thread based on the books - I am all for it.
There aren't many people discussing the TV series so there won't be enough to discuss the books.
Ya I've never read the books but I think it's the second best show on TV right now besides Breaking Bad. I'll be discussing it when the season starts.
There aren't many people discussing the TV series so there won't be enough to discuss the books.
I bet if you went crazy with a book thread pulling out all the stops, people would talk about the books! That aside, spoiler tags are fine should that not happen. I plan to comment more this season as this is one of the best shows, period on television.

I've read all of the books! Which is why I've been biting my tongue in this thread. I will say that ZOMG I am SO PUMPED for this season!! I am interested to see the reactions of people that haven't read the books to some of the things that go down. Again, ZOMG!!1

Anyone else pumped for this? This season is my favorite book (well the first half of it) in the series. Lots of crazy **** coming.

My DVR gets maxed out on Sunday night. Damn!
My DVR gets maxed out on Sunday night. Damn!
I had to do some major re-shuffling tonight to fit everything in!
I am counting down the hours (although I will probably watch TWD finale first).
The old gods, new gods, and Lord of the Light will all punish you for this. Do we all have our favorite Game of Thrones T-Shirt on?
The old gods, new gods, and Lord of the Light will all punish you for this. Do we all have our favorite Game of Thrones T-Shirt on?
Ha...I've actually had one in my cart on HBO.com for like a month and keep forgetting to go and buy it.
I thought last night's episode was a little slow, but since we're still in the catching up with the characters/introducing some new ones zone it was to be expected. At the same time, 1/5 of the season's now done. I did think the best parts were the Jaime scenes. I may be biased since he's my favorite character in the books and the show, but I thought they were very well done.
I'm surprised no one has spoken about the Red Wedding yet. That was intense. I haven't read the book so I don't know what is coming, but I found it hard to think of how they will continue next.... I suppose the plethora of story lines will definitely keep it afloat. I've personally always liked shows/books that were not afraid to get rid of characters... keeps the viewer/reader on the edge.

Season 4 will be fantastic, as the Red Wedding was about half way through the 3rd book. Season 5 is where the show will begin to differ from the books much more and it will be interesting to see what the show does from there.
I had been waiting for someone to post about that episode... brutal. I had to apologize to the wife because although I knew it was coming, I had no idea it was going to be so graphic. I correctly figured TRW was going to be episode 9, so I assume that
Joffrey's death will be in the season finale, along with the accusation toward Tyrion and his imprisonment pending execution.
I have heard that they may combine Books 4 & 5 into a season since they occured simultaneously. At any rate, they're going to catch up to Martin pretty soon and either have to table the series for a while, or add in some DBZ-worthy filler!

I am sure they know who dies, who kills them, who wins the throne, what alliances are made, etc. I believe they will combine Books 4 & 5 into a single season and pick and choose which characters they want to focus on. My guess is that the Martell perspective is pretty much completely removed and the Grevjoy storyline is lessened greatly.
I forget how much time are between The Red Wedding and Joffrey's death, but I could see that being the cliff hanger of the season. I could also see them showing Cat being revived as the season cliff hanger and save Joffrey's death for early next season.
It would sadden me greatly if the Martells were cut out entirely. They're pretty much the replacement "sympathetic protagonist" House with Stark down for the count. And I really want to see Oberyn do his thing!
