Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins - Spoilers
Spring Challenge 2009 The Thailand Challenge (i.e. The Ruins) is the eighteenth season of the MTV television series, Real World/Road Rules Challenge, and follows The Duel II which was filmed last fall in New Zealand. It takes place in Thailand with cast members from The Real World and Road Rules competing along with several cast members from the stand alone Fresh Meat challenge. The cast is scheduled to departed from Los Angeles international Airport at the end of April and production ran through the end of May. The show is expect to premiere in Late September/ Early October (fall 2009.) The design of the new challenge is not fully known, although it is rumored that with the new name comes a new format and it has been that there will be similarities with The Island in that the cast will be secluded and have to check amenities such as cell phones and internet access at the door. What is most interesting is the current state of affairs in Thailand which might have an impact on the proceedings.
The Department of State advises all American citizens residing in or traveling to Bangkok to monitor events closely, to avoid any large public gatherings, and to exercise discretion when moving about Bangkok. All demonstrations are unpredictable, and any demonstration can turn violent without warning. For this reason, the Embassy encourages all Americans to monitor local media for announcements of possible demonstrations and to avoid the areas where demonstrations might occur. If a demonstration is expected to pass near U.S. Embassy facilities, Embassy entrances and functions may be restricted, depending on circumstances. The far south of Thailand has been experiencing almost daily incidents of criminally and politically motivated violence, including incidents attributed to armed local separatist groups. On March 15, 2008, two bombs exploded at the CS Pattani Hotel in Pattani Province in southern Thailand. Two people died and thirteen were injured. A car bomb exploded in Yala Province on the same day, killing the driver. Although the separatist groups have continued to focus primarily on Thai government interests in the southern provinces, some of the recent violence in the area has targeted public places, including areas where tourists may congregate.
We should have more information in the coming weeks as information begins to filter back from our many eyes and ears here and abroad. Not bad, not bad at all. But please don't let it be too much like The Island, because we saw how that went. If they want that concept, seriously do Challenges every day instead of every week. Although a new concept was needed, just because I can't see anything being reused. I just hope that there is teams or a completely individual challenge. But Thailand is a big step up.
Why choose a country that's not safe...? and I really hope the challenge is not like "The Island". If it is, then it'll get poor ratings for sure. I don't get whats with the no cell phone policy. They've had phones before on other challenges, what's the big deal? I also hope there are teams instead of having it be all individual or forming your own teams.

Hopefully this won't be too much like the Island. Thanks B! Is there going to be a rumored cast list up?
Thanks B! Is there going to be a rumored cast list up?
With the way things change until they actually depart, I am holding off announcing any cast members for the time being. But, it should not be long! As for the format, I am not saying it is going to be like The Island other then the fact that there are a few amenity provisions that are similar in nature (i.e. no cell phones.) We will have to keep our ears to the grindstone and see what we find out about the actual game setup of The Ruins in the coming weeks.

That way you can give the exact cast. I get what you mean. I kind of like the idea of no cell phones or internet, that way it can feel like they are playing the game non-stop. The Pit sounds interesting, and obviously that is where the elimination round will take place, Ex: The Gauntlet; Gauntlet.
Want me to troll around LAX? Haha.
You definitely should. We could have Vevmo's own searching for the cast. Haha.
Want me to troll around LAX? Haha :)
Yes molds!
Want me to troll around LAX? Haha
Um...yes! haha. You can be just like those clowns at TMZ. Maybe Vevmo can even spring for your very own airport locker so you can keep a box lunch in there. :D Oh, back to the format - there is a possibility that performance on past challenges might effect how the teams are defined (that is all I can offer for now and being this is from an unfamiliar and anonymous source, I can't confirm it.)
Yes molds!
It looks as though they depart the last week of April now.
Oh, back to the format - there is a distinct possibility that performance on past challenges might effect how the teams are defined (that is all I can offer for now and being this is from a relatively unfamiliar and anonymous source, I can't confirm it.)
Wow, I definitely have always though about a concept like that. Such as winners vs. losers, or winners vs. those in the finals, etc. So you never know, but it is an interesting concept.

Ahh I see. Molds may just have to camp out over at LAX. :)

I agree Dart it would be really neat to have teams divided into those who have won a challenge against ones who haven't!
I agree Dart it would be really neat to have teams divided into those who have won a challenge against ones who haven't!
Ohh I am so excited!!!! I can't wait to see who is going to be on this challenge, and what concept they went with!
Why do they keep filming these shows in potentially dangerous places? I don't understand that. I mean I know they won't put the cast anywhere NEAR the bad stuff that's happening over there but still couldn't they go anywhere safer> But this is cool because I was just saying in the Casting challenge 2009 thread that they should do a new concept and BAM!....new concept. I'm excited I wonder if it's going to be Teams or everyone for themselves.

I def. think that if they do have teams, they switch it up a little different. No veterans vs. rookies or anything like that because on Gauntlet 3, the vets were stacked. If it wasn't for Eric, they would have won. I also think they need to separate friends. For example maybe Evan/Kenny on a different team.

Keep in mind though, as friends, they will always be working together. There isn't much anyone can do about that. I wish there was something they could do to put friends head to head for an entire season. It would be fun to see.

He just seems relaxed about the challenges where as Evan feels the need to always control things (he called himself the leader on the veterans team on G3, and he's basically running things on the duel 2). It would be funny to see the cast strategize to get them to go against in each other (like in a duel or a gauntlet). Not saying if they are on this next challenge but basically I think the teams should be separated so we don't have the same people always running things.
Wow, I definitely have always though about a concept like that. Such as winners vs. losers
I always thought the same thing.
I would like to see the teams picked by the cast members themselves. Like picking a team in a school yard. ex. the 2 captains would be Evan and Kenny. then Evan gets a female pick, then Kenny gets a female pick, then each of the female picks get a male pick and so on and so forth! I think that would be cool. Would they pick their friend? Or who is best for the team?

That's an interesting idea RMD1. It would be fun if they had to pick immediately with no time to deliberate.
I agree Dart it would be really neat to have teams divided into those who have won a challenge against ones who haven't!
I think so too! But, that gives me the feeling that Robin and Paula will be back again...
Hi everyone, I just signed up and am happy to finally find a place where I can talk about my love for the challenges. I am SO excited for this new challenge and am happy they are finally going with an idea like winners vs. losers. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled on facebook to look for any clues on who might be on the challenge, but if this is in fact the format than we will no doubt see Robin and Paula.

Welcome GHV11!! Here's a spot for you to introduce yourself formally, if you'd like! http://vevmo.com/f77/welcome-please-introduce-yourself-540/
Hopefully they consider changing the name. When I first looked at this I was immediately thinking Viewer's Revenge.

Teams picked by the cast member themselves is too much and too similiar to the Duel.
