Mexico Travel Alert
FYI -- The State Department has issued a caution that Spring Break travel to Mexico this year is not a good idea.
Oh really, what's going on down there that its that serious?
Oh really, what's going on down there that its that serious?
Here is State's travel alert: MIG: Mexico Travel Alert
Here is State's travel alert: MIG: Mexico Travel Alert
Wow after reading all that I hope the Cancun cast members are okay.
Here is State's travel alert: MIG: Mexico Travel Alert
I've heard of that, my teacher was talking to us about that today.
Here is State's travel alert: MIG: Mexico Travel Alert
I don't think there should be any worry. I am sure Cancun is not an area of real concern (although there is always a kidnapping risk.) Most of the violence is taking place along the border as a turf war plays out. Places like Cabo, Acapulco, Cozumel and Cancun are not the real Mexico anyway, but rather Mexican themed American recreation zones.

He was abducted and brutally murdered just outside of Cancun. I'm told by my State Department regional security friends that they have significant concerns about high profile Americans. Camera crews are high profile.
outside of Cancun
That is what I am saying though. If you stay on the strip, you are generally fine. Once you venture out to an area where Mexicans outnumber Americans, things become more dire. The crime rate in Cancun proper is lower than most major US cities. Still, it would be a good idea for BMP to hire a bit of extra security.

It is escalating for sure.
I hope nothing bad happens to the cast.
More widespread news on the perceived danger in Mexico. Colleges warn students about Mexico travel - Yahoo! News

I'm going to Mexico in the near future and I'm not the least bit worried. Like I said above, I'd be more concerned if my taxi got a flat tire heading through the wrong part of Dorchester (Boston) than drinking Margaritas at Playa Azul Cozumel as the warm sun strikes my half dazed face by the pool. Sure, I don't think I'll be heading out to Nogales across the AZ border and hitting up off the beaten path strip clubs anytime soon, but common sense needs apply...
I leave in a week!!! I hope it's ok lol
I leave in a week!!! I hope it's ok lol
Good luck. May sure you leave a current will behind.
Good luck. May sure you leave a current will behind.
Was that suppose to be funny because I so just laughed.
I hope the college students of America heed this warning now that its getting national attention.
I doubt it will make much of a difference. I remembered in college, people would book their trips to Mexico months in advance. With spring break already started, I don't think the majority of college students need worry as they are in resorts. I agree with whoever said that the people in larger cities (Cancun, Cabo, Cozumel, etc) are in less danger than those in Tijuana, Baja, etc.

Then when someone dies, is kidnapped or assaulted there will be an outcry that the warning wasn't serious enough.
Even though Cancun is prooooobably OK, it's still pretty scary! (Ugh...I still can't believe The Real World is going to CANCUN. Especially after such a great season like Brooklyn)

The former commander of the army in the western Mexican state of Michoacan had a powerful reputation as a man of war; someone who could fix any problem. He had been personally invited by the recently elected [Cancun] mayor, Gregorio Sanchez. Gen Tello's task was to weed out corruption in the city's police force; to take back the streets from criminal gangs. He lasted less than three days at work. On 3 February, together with his bodyguard and driver, he was abducted. The three men were tortured and then driven to a remote jungle location where they were killed with a bullet to the head.
Just watch Gangland on the History channel about the Mexican Mafia and other gangs affiliated with them. The things that go on down in that corrupt country is enough to steer me away from that area forever, as it should for others.

Erroneous on all accounts!
To most of its four million visitors a year, Cancun is blue sky, turquoise sea, white sand, and huge all-inclusive hotels. The sort of place where the drinks flow freely, and the troubles of the world seem a long way away. But venture into downtown Cancun, a few kilometres from the beachfront, and it's a different story. Here, the troubles of modern Mexico are there for all to see.
i.e. Stay in the massive hotel beach front zone and you will be fine. V1, you are not ruining my vacation no matter how disturbing the articles get although I appreciate your concern for safety. ;) Heck, I was in Belize during the 2005 uprisings so I am use to a little violence in the distance. I don't let things like that put a damper on my celebratory mood. Anyway, I have yet to see an article saying the dolphins around Cozumel have been fitted with grenades and taught to track down unsuspecting tourists with snorkel gear, so I think it is fair to say it is probably the safest place in Mexico right now, being an island and all.

I'm sure you will have a blast and, no doubt, one or more very attractive women will become enamored with your charms... Just be sure to "protect" yourself at all times.

The Thai government was fighting with some local group while I was over there, probably trying to quell a potential coup before it got out of hand (like in 2006). It kind of reminds you that you aren't in Kansas anymore.

Good Morning America was talking about it this morning too: ABC News: Are Your Kids Safe South of the Border?
I think that they should just choose another location just so the safety issue is not a problem.
I think that they should just choose another location just so the safety issue is not a problem.
Way too late... they have been shooting there for a while now. It was announced by BMP last month.
Well I just hope that the cast and the crew be careful(which im sure they will).
Way too late... they have been shooting there for a while now. It was announced by BMP last month.
Is there any sort of press release you can link to or is that more inside information?
