The TV Set
I caught this movie today in passing. It was quite funny and an took a fun stab at series programming in today's network environment. Lots of inside baseball.
The TV Set is a 2006 comedy about an idealistic writer attempting to bring his vision, in the form of a TV pilot, to fruition on the small screen. It was released on April 6, 2007. Writer/director Jake Kasdan, whose previous credits include the films Zero Effect and Orange County and the television series Freaks and Geeks, "uses his first-hand knowledge of the world of network television to craft a wily comedy about the making of a TV pilot", according to Below the Line. The movie screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in late April 2006. This looks kinda cool...I might have to see it. EDIT: It was already in my queue and I forgot it was there. Bumping up now...
I just watched it. FINALLY. It's funny. I wonder how many EPs and show runners feel the same way Duchovny's character does in this movie haha It's just so funny to see how much stories and ideas get changed throughout "the process". coughcoughFOXcough... Even in a scripted film format, it's a nice, light comedic jab at the way the industry works. Sigourney Weaver was fantastic, and I'm always up for a little Judy Greer in my life. AND it has Fran Kranz from Dollhouse.
