Big Brother 11: Summer 2009
It looks like we got our wishes, and will not have to suffer through another Winter Edition of Big Brother.
With casting already underway for Big Brother 11, we thought that maybe CBS would bring fans another Winter edition of the network's prolific reality series. Earlier this week, I speculated that, although it might be difficult finding time slots for Big Brother 11 this Winter, that there was a distinct possibility that Big Brother 11 could return at mid-season. Well, CBS has nipped that notion in the bud. Big Brother 11 will air in the Summer of 2009. CBS released this information via a press release. Although this should end speculation for the time being, it should be acknowledged that TV is a transitory business, and anything is still possible. However, in all likelihood, Big Brother 11 won't be appearing on your television screens for at least nine months. The circumstances in which Big Brother 9 became a Winter edition were unique. It was during the writers' strike, at a time when CBS was desperate for original programming. This is not going to happen again, at least not in the near future, which is the major reason that a Big Brother 11: Winter edition is very unlikely. CBS, in order to quell fan speculation and avoid the risk of getting fans' hopes up, was smart in announcing that Big Brother 11 would indeed be another Summer season. Is it a smart move? Probably. Big Brother is an easy enough series to produce, and Allison Grodner and company are eminently capable of producing two seasons a year. The problem is that Big Brother has only been viable as a Summer tent pole series. Big Brother 10, for instance, only garnered about seven million viewers per episode. That is fine for the Summer months, but it would be among the network's lowest rated series if it aired during the meat of the season. Re-runs of shows like CSI or NCIS or Criminal Minds all receive more than seven million viewers, so why waste money on original content if you don't have to?
[via BuddyTV]
I wouldn't watch Big Brother in the winter anyways. Too many other things to watch and Big Bro is quite a commitment being on 3 times a week.
When it was first announced, Big Brother 9 seemed like a good idea and I was excited to see it. But it was hard to get into honestly and the couple thing was...well not that good. After the split it picked up a little but the damage was done by then. BB10 started off slow too but evolved into a great season so I agree...BB11 should be in the summer as it should be and they will have time to get everything in order for the new season.

It makes good summer filler and should remain in the summer only. Having seasons on a continuous loop can only work to dilute the franchise.

She is one of the very best people in the casting game. She also does The Bachelor.
I hope for another season without casting stunts and pre-existing relationships, I liked BB10 better without those factors. But I agree about Robyn Kass, I've always thought BB has had solid, dynamic casts within the confines of whatever stunt Grodner dictates I get the feeling for some reason that BB12 in 2010 will be some variation of fans vs favorites.
BB10 was a nice part from all the twists from previous seasons and it was refreshing to have just strangers all in the house. BUT I do hope BB11 has more twists...I don't mean go overboard with it...just slip some nice shockers in there from time to time.
Well I'm excited.
They need a big twist! Im sorry but BB 10 was boring!!!! I forget what country they did it in, but they had 2 groups of people living in 2 seperate houses. Then they moved into the same house. I think that would be cool!!

CBS has not yet fully amortized their current investment in the reworked house. Small mods, not big ones, will be the order of the day. No network has much cash to invest in something that is largely already working for the vast majority of its regular audience.
I found this at Jokersupdates.com :D
WLNS TV-6, Lansing, Michigan's CBS affiliate and market news leader, announces that it will be hosting Michigan's only open casting calls for Big Brother 11. Think you've got what it takes to live in the Big Brother house and win a half million dollars? Apply now to be on BIG BROTHER 11. Big Brother 11 Open Casting Call is Wednesday, April 1st from 5 to 8PM at Eastwood Towne Center, 3003 Preyde Boulevard, Lansing, MI 48912. Applicants who are interested in trying to be a contestant on Big Brother 11 must be present at the Open Casting Call to be eligible. Eligibility requirements and applications are available at wlns.com. Applicants can bring their own tape to the casting call or have WLNS record one for them at the event. Specific requirements are clearly stated on the application. All applicants who choose to have WLNS record their segment, can purchase a DVD copy for $18 per copy. WLNS will deliver all applicant's tapes and applications to CBS c/o Allison Grodner Productions in the specified format. All applicants must completely fill out the application and must sign the tape log at the event. Think you might want to show up to watch? Eastwood Towne Center will give away a $250.00 shopping spree to some lucky spectator. "We are excited to bring this event to Lansing" said Julie Tadgerson, the local CBS Station official. "There are only a few places in the country hosting local casting calls. Lansing currently is the only place in Michigan. We have been receiving phone calls and emails from all over the country regarding the event and that's pretty exciting, considering we have not run a single promotional announcement yet. Somehow the word is getting out that WLNS in Lansing is hosting this casting call. For me personally, if I were eligible (and I am not) to try out for one of those shows it would be the Big Brother! It would the experience of a lifetime to win a half of a million dollars! That would be awesome. Plus, how often do spectators get to win a $250 shopping spree from a cool mall like Eastwood Towne Center?"
[via wlns.com]
Mike Boogie, Robyn Kass, and Brian Hart talk with Julie Chen about Big Brother 11 Casting. YouTube - Big Brother 11 Casting on Early Show#
Only 10 new HG's? Will Grodner be throwing the Donato clan back in the house? Or maybe she will have a favorite and needs to have less houseguests so if her favorite gets evicted, she can toss a "mystery box" in there a couple times. Entirely likely that Julie Chen misspoke the facts as she seems to have no clue about this show anyhow.
^ I know!!! She said that all stars was season 8.. It was 7

There is a Big Brother event in Rainbow, Oregon on Monday and Tuesday, hosted by Kail at her Holiday Farm Resort. Holiday Farm Resort - Historic Restaurant by the McKenzie River Last year's BB crew. Jennifer (BB6) distracted me at the poker table. No only did she seriously distract me so that I continually lost to Kail's husband, but she conned me into making her a loan that quickly turned into a gift... Those attending this year.
It was nice to have this absence between seasons unlike last year and now I am hyped up for what they come up with. Season 10 was solid toward the end and I think they should build on that. At least have one or two twists this time though.

Season 10 was a very solid season in the beginning. Once Libra/April left (right when jury started) I lost a lot of interest. I actually missed a lot of the episodes towards the end because I just didn't care enough to watch (which has never happened to me in any of the BB seasons that I've watched.)

Pretty much the game turned the forth week and after that the people running the game went out in short order. Personally I liked the Renegades so it was pretty easy to enjoy the show and the feeds. And to be mean a second...April was my least favorite houseguests...I was happy when she left lol
I think Big brother needs twists, unlike season 10.. Thats what makes it BIG BROTHER!!
WO!
I think Big brother needs twists, unlike season 10.. Thats what makes it BIG BROTHER!!
Twists are definitely a part of Big Brother...that was what BB10 lacked and the ones in BB9 mostly flat-lined. It'll be interesting to see where they take this season anf hopefully there will be 14 again this year....I didn't like the shorter season.
Hmmm, I think I will give this season a shot. After Libra left Season 10, the show's dynamic quickly dropped and Remmie going home solidified that the season was losing all of its major drama starters. I think they should drastically change this season.
lol BB10 was a drastic change from BB9 which was a drastic change from anything good. It was a step in the right direction from 9 to 10 and they can build on it this season if they make the right moves. Hey Dart we should try to get casted next season.
I say let's roll it back to BB8. It had a great cast and a novel twist. I am on the twist side of the aisle, unless it is a stupid BB9 twist which has a huge amount of build up and then the cast vetoes it (e.g. the box thing.)
I wouldn't mind seeing a BB8-style twist again, except one where everyone is involved, and everyone has an actual enemy...not simply a rocky past that Grodner exploits for ratings and rigs for those with the rocky past, who are not actually enemies but blood relatives who knew they'd be on the show together. ...and that was a massive run-on sentence. Overall though, I like twists that shake up the game play and strategy of the game in the middle of it, I'm not as much of a fan of the casting stunt twists. Though I suppose that's what helps them promote the season. Of all the casting stunts, "enemies" did have the biggest promise.
When did the twists start? I saw 1 and 2 and nothing really happened...then i stopped watching til 10 what were some of the twists?
