Battlestar Galactica
I was just watching a Battlestar Galactica special about it being a phenomenon with people in the entertainment industry. I guess Joss Whedon is a huge fan and he talks about the series. He says: (and I quote) "I think it is the best show I have ever seen." The cards are down on the fraking table and it is a straight flush. Get the DVD's! Listen to your Demi-God Joss! Here is what he had to say about BSG when he first tuned in:
I’m just sneaking in to say I’ve been continuing to watch BSG, the wife and I are about halfway through season one and gushing isn’t gonna cover this one. You guys have heard me gush, so it won’t have any real meaning. You have to imagine Pauline Kael bursting into song, Lionel Barrymoore In "Wonderful Life" jumping up and jitterbugging with George Bailey, the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes... you gotta start down there to explain what it feels like up here. I’ll put it simply. The show is humbling. Not since the Matrix (the first one) have I had such a strong desire to go to writing school. I think it’s so passionate, textured, complex, subversive and challenging that it dwarfs everything on TV. Or in theaters. Or boho performances spaces. Stuff hanging in the Tate ? Not as cool. I’m not gonna go on, because I have to get back to work and because if I really start, this post will crash the internet from sheer length. Only downsides are a) I was already having a crisis of confidence, thank you very much and b) I can’t go near any Sci-Fi mags for fear of spoilers. Apart from that, life is to be loved. The Gods are to be praised. Back to the job. -j.
I am going to agree with him as I felt the same way. I am totally addicted and loving every minute of the new season and my only regret is that I can not go back to the beginning and savor the journey more. BTW: If you have any intention of ever watching the series don't watch the video linked above is it drops a few bombs that would completely ruin episodes 1-51. I saw the DVDs at Walmart yesterday and Dexter wasn't there, so I almost bought BSG! I didn't though. But if Joss says they are his favorite.... ;)
But if Joss says they are his favorite....
You must listen to Joss! Actually, a lot of people compare it to Firefly in spirit, although I am not sure how similar they are beyond the sci-fi premise (I have not seen Firefly.) All in all it is a critical success and I guess the initial ratings this season are great. Also, it would be cool to have someone to talk to about the show. :D
I saw the DVDs at Walmart yesterday and Dexter wasn't there, so I almost bought BSG!
Oh, and if you get the DVD's over the summer, there is good news (and bad for some.) It seems that they have decided to split the final season into two 10 episode runs (epic milking.) One is airing now and one will air in late 2008 or early 2009. So you can easily get all caught up while I cry for 6-10 months waiting to find out what happens. ;) Just so you know you have to start with: Battlestar Galactica (2003 Miniseries) Then you you can watch seasons 1, 2, 3. When I first got the DVD's for season 1 the very first episode started with, "previously on Battlestar Galactica" and I was like, "what the frak?" I then realized that the seasons were a continuation of the miniseries (which is the entire premise of the show.) P.s. I guess Emma Caulfield is also a huge fan. She passed on auditions for the role as "Starbuck" which is now played by Katie Sackhoff thinking this was just another 70's remake that was going to suck. Whoops!
I have no idea what time it runs on the Space Channel. I'd order the DVD's through Columbia House but after my last exchange with them I don't want to give them any other business than the purchase of my last 2 DVD's to fulfill my contract. Rotten ******** tried to rip me off!!! They tried charging me $53 for Fantastic Four 2. Ummmm, I don't think so.... Buy 1 get on half off, thank you very much. WhoTF buys one movie for $53???? Frick! Anyway thanks for the heads up, Bacchus I'll look out for the miniseries DVD.
I have no idea what time it runs on the Space Channel.
Space Channel BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Season 4 Fridays 10et/7pt Repeats Saturday 8et/5pt $53 for a movie? Ouch! Was it plated in gold or something, lol. ;)
By the time I get caught up Season 4 will be over. Hmmm, maybe I will postpone renting the Dexter season 1 DVD's and going straight for BSG. The video store should have the miniseries as well as seasons 1-3. I wonder if they have a website. Hmmm
By the time I get caught up Season 4 will be over.
Not quite. They are only showing half of the final season this spring, then the other half late next fall at the earliest. So you have plenty of time to catch up and the best is yet to come. I have seen both and I think that Dexter is an awesome television show but BSG transcends TV and is more of an epic movie. I'd go for BSG! :D
I LOVE BSG!!! I am really excited about this season. I've been waiting forever for it to start! I didn't realize they were going to split the final season in half. Don't they realize that I need instant gratification? Bummer!
I LOVE BSG!!! I am really excited about this season. I've been waiting forever for it to start! I didn't realize they were going to split the final season in half. Don't they realize that I need instant gratification? Bummer!
Way back in August of 2007 they said they would split the season. Now they are trying to blame it on the strike (which is a semi valid reason.) The truth is that BSG is what makes the SciFi channel a player on cable and they want to get as much out of it as they can. Strike or no strike, they were going to divide the season and extend the series shelf life. The best hope is that they go with the fall, although there is also word that they might finish it in Spring 2009 ( Noooooooooooo!) I am psyched it is back as well. I guess since I am not the only one watching I'll start up a thread with discussion from this season.
The best hope is that they go with the fall, although there is also word that they might finish it in Spring 2009 ( Noooooooooooo!)
I pray to the gods they do not make us wait until then!
All this has happened before, and will happen again. ;) We had to wait over a year between episodes last time, so I'll hope for the best and expect the worst.
Bacchus! Thanks for the PM to lure me here! Much appreciated! ANYWAYS. Kathleen...Dexter is SO GOOD! Don't delay! I'm currently on Disc 3 and LOVING it. Best show i've seen recently! Now for the BSG: I respect the show for bringing the genre a little bit of mainstream fandom/fare. HOWEVER, I've tried watching! I swear! I watched the mini-series. Then Season 1. And got about 2-3 episodes into Season 2 until I fell asleep. I just didn't connect with any character besides Starbuck. I found them all to be secondary. She'd TOTALLY SHINE and the other characters were just utter background. I also thought that it was quite confusing...cuz everyone has like 3 names! I didn't care about the crazy dude talking to the crazy-hot chick (6? Cylon 6? Tricia Helfer..). The plots of the episodes were slow....idk man! I thought I was going to TOTALLY geek out on it...and it was quite different than what I expected. By now I know all about Starbuck (or at least whats been told..) I know about Thigh, and some other people...Boomer....some other stuff. Is season 2 worth it? Does it get better?
Is season 2 worth it? Does it get better?
Season 2 totally rocks, but if you are not going to commit to the series - just watch this: What the Frak is going on? ...and then join in on season 4! The first two episodes can be streamed over at SciFi!
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahah see yeah....i wanted to know all that so thanks for posting it! but its just not for me. sadly. The starbuck/apollo thing is so back and forth. a tub of goo? bathazar annoys me. man. its like im interested kind of....but it didnt move fast enough for me! and i got SO BORED of new caprica....and boomer....and the actress that plays boomer lol Thanks again though! I will now leave the BSG thread for all of you to enjoy the new season! Which i do hope you do! =)
Actually the real BSG thread for season 4 is here. You weren't invited!
