Yep, I completely agree.
Derrick had Mark on the most recent podcast and he said that he thinks that from now on BMP is gonna scrap things like the Gauntlet and Inferno in favor of doing themed challenges like Exes and Rivals because they think it's more user-friendly for the casual fans. That doesn't really make sense to me. I agree that it's easy for a random viewer to get the concept of "these people hate each other" or what have you but you wouldn't know any of the backstory and, especially in the case of Rivals, you'd barely be able to tell for some pairs. I'm not sure how that concept is easier for a casual viewer to understand than Rookies vs Vets or every man for himself. I'm personally hoping they don't do a challenge where the cast has to fit a certain theme because it seems to severely limit the pool they can pick from and if certain people say no they have to grasp for straws (Nate/Priscilla, Katelynn/Sarah).
You can get the drama that they hope to achieve by just having certain people there...you don't need pair them and have a format surrounding it. There was more Wes/Kenny and Adam/CT explosiveness on FM2 and D2 and G3 respectively without them being paired just like there probably would've been between CT and Diem on D2 because their breakup and issues were fresh. Most of these people seem to be adult enough to just put it aside for the competition and they aren't really achieving the drama factor.
What else could they do lol? Best friends, same season pairings is all I can think of.

Ehh, as a viewer who's been watching since basically the beginning and has gone on message boards discussing it since back then, I can safely say that people were just as, if not more, annoyed by the old-school "regulars". The only reason it doesn't seem that way now is because many of them haven't been on in awhile, and now there are new people to be annoyed with. There's also the whole nostalgic factor attached to them and the fact that the challenges back then were better and more fun than they are now.
Believe me, people HATED the likes of Veronica, Rachel, The Miz, Coral, etc. ****, even Mark wasn't as well liked as you may think because of his current reputation. I mean, some of the nicknames you'd hear were definitely hateworthy. Veronica had Kleptonica (or Klepto)/Verantula, Rachel was Butterface, Coral was Quarrel or FiveHead or whatever. I'm sure Beth had quite a few. I think it may have even seemed worse back then simply because there was more audience back then. Many people have stopped watching since then and now there's a new breed of viewers as well. And obviously back then and now the message boards only account for a small faction of the audience anyways, but the hating on the "regulars" thing isn't anything new.
It's inevitable though. It's the same when you watch a TV show where you hate a character and are happy when they leave the show, but then a new character comes on that you hate and you long for the "good old days" of so and so.

So true! Some of the old message boards are still up from 2003-2005 and there are many comments about people getting sick of seeing the Miz, Coral, Veronica, Rachel...etc. Also the ratings were much higher. The challenges back then had ratings around 3-4 million. Now it's 1-2 million. I think the Miz said on his blog that "The Gauntlet 1" final had a 4.0 rating . Out of everybody Veronica got the most hate. She did 6 challenges in a row (2002-2005)!!! And she won 2 challenges back to back so people were so annoyed with her appearing and winning like some people are with Johnny Bananas.
If twitter was invented when the old school challenges were airing....My God Veronica, Coral, Rachel would have SO many followers. What a shame!
Who the **** is Nathan?
Seattle Real World.
It's been like this. I'm sure people were tired of seeing Veronica, Rachel, Miz, Coral, Abram and Theo win/be in the finals.
True but they weren't that annoying like JEKW.
Nathan Blackburn from the Seattle cast.
And what was the last challenge he was on? I'm sure it was before The Inferno. I don't see what the point of people wanting to bring back people from early challenges that we can hardly remember.

He was last on the Gauntlet 1. It'd be nice to pick from their roots if possible, in my opinion. I'm over JEKW. Nathan was good on the Gauntlet 1, or else I wouldn't remember him.

The same could be said for Jo, Puck's replacement/Roni
I have been watching these shows for a long time - and I will say that while I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see people like Veronica and Coral come back for a challenge, back in the day I was SO TIRED of them. ****, Veronica did like 7 in a row at one point, didn't she?
I think it's just when the same people do them over and over again (now it's Johnny, Paula, etc) you grow tired of them. I'm sure if Johnny would take a couple years off, fans of the show would welcome his return once someone else starts taking his place on each challenge in between. Perfect example for me is CT... a few years ago (during the stretch of all the Infernos)... I hated CT because 1) He was a *** and 2) He did every challenge. He took a couple of years off and now I love the fact that he's back. The same can be said for Diem.

Which goes with my point of bringing back people who haven't done it in awhile. It needs to happen. And also, these themed challenged are sucking the life out of me. They have good concepts, but you can only take it so far.
It would be interesting if they did rookies vs veterans or a Ruins 2, or a Cutthroat challenge with three teams. One team that have rookies, another team with people that have never won, and another team with champions.
I want to see Landon back :)
You need staples. THe old favorites, are old and probably not interested in the challenge anymore. Noone either a) knows who nathan is or b) cares about him being on a challenge.
Johnny, Kenny, Paula, Wes,Cara Maria and others like that are gold for the comments. They kill it everytime with the one liners. That is gold. I imagine, they make it easier for the production. Plus with guys like Kenny and Wes essentially playing out a persona's it just helps add great sound bite.
I personally like the JEK's because they are entertaining, but I much perfer them one at a time. I personally liked the Fresh Meat 2 cast (wes and one of jek, bunch of new people)
I'd like (DC ashley, Andrew, zach, ashley, New orleans, nany etc) fresh faces, but not entirely eliminating the staples.
This doesnt mean anything, but I am suprise that Priscilla wants to do another one:

The first thing she tweeted was that she didn't have a good experience on Exes.
This doesnt mean anything, but I am suprise that Priscilla wants to do another one: since The first thing , she tweeted was that she didn't had a good experience on exes.
Well I doubt anybody who goes home first would say they had a good experience, so I wouldn't be surprised. Despite Mark's speculation as to another theme, I expect the next Challenge to be individual just to rotate in some backbenchers.
Johanna from what people have said thinks she's beyond the show now that she's had two commercials on TV about yogurt and something else. I obviously don't really know for sure what she does to keep herself afloat in NYC since it's expensive but I just find it so annoying when people act above the show. I think Blair said it best when he said that its almost disrespectful to act like that towards the show since most people are HOPING that it leads to some sort of professional acting career. Well when people get that career ie.- Jamie, Mallory, Dave, Kit, Tami, Miz, I have yet to hear any of them bad mouth the franchise and most will still fondly reflect on their experience. Johanna has always annoyed me though but this just adds more fuel to the fire. For her to tell Coral that is just so condescending.
Would they even bother asking Mallory back? She only did one season and was pretty boring on it the 8 episodes she lasted
Sarah/Mandi/Camilla/Melinda and a Host of other girls(and guys too) have been boring as all **** but yet they keep getting asked back so I think they can bring back Mallory.
I think Sarah was pretty entertaining on The Ruins. No surprise they asked her back.
Mandi had her story line on Fresh Meat 2. She was Wes partner and got into fight with Jenn. I think she was pretty dramatic.
Camila was drama queen of CutThroat. Lots of fights, good performe.
Melinda was after divorce. Might be they thought she will be diffrent? Btw, it was CutThroat, they needed lots of rookies. It's like Gauntlet 3. They needed rookies so they got back lots of boring people like Ryan or Tori.

I think you're reading way too much into Johanna's comment.
Hopefully Zach Nichols is on the next challenge.
I have a feeling he would destroy every male on the show.
Not sure about this. Experience means a lot. Look at Emily and Ty on Exes. They are young and very strong team. But they didn't win. They didn't lose just in the final. They couldn't even win a mission. If you take a look, almost every mission was winning buy vets. I'm not saying he would be a weak player, but I don't think he would destroy somebody. JEK doesn't look very interesting at him. It's more like Derrick is trying to be his friend not Johnny or other guys who could give him some power.
You think you can cast one better than BMP but you have to realize that not everyone you ask will say yes. They have to think about ratings and not just what the hardcore fans want also.
If BMP was smart they would do The Duel 3. As we have all speculated season after season that it was going to be The Duel 3, BMP should really listen to the out cry of the fans that watch these shows. I understand the themed challenge weed out the people that don't bring much to the show, cuz if they never had a huge rivalry or relationship what are they doing on the show, right? Well its not hard to cast 26 people without a dumb theme. I could cast one right now that would blow the cast of Rivals and Battle of the Exes out of the water.
Oh, so I take it you have experience in casting? It goes far beyond just saying "I want Veronica on the next challenge".
Mind you, BMP doesn't have the power summon cast members on command. You can "come up" with the most ******, sickest, most awesomest cast this series have ever seen. But actually CASTING them, pulling them out of their real lives, and getting them on TV (signing contracts, papers, making arrangements, etc), good luck buddy. It's NOT as easy as you think.
Fans might "out cry" and "demand" to see, for example, VERONICA on another challenge, and BMP can try, but that's ultimately Veronica's decision. And honestly, some of the cast members that fans are "out cry"-ing to see, are happy with their lives outside of the show (hence why we see the same old cast members every season).
You think you can cast one better than BMP but you have to realize that not everyone you ask will say yes. They have to think about ratings and not just what the hardcore fans want also.
Exactly. The demands of general public and far greater interests to MTV (the final decision makers), than the "hardcore" fans. So fans can demand for what they want to see until the cows come home. If it has no general audience appeal, it won't happen.
The conditions on The Ruins, Duel 2 and Cutthroat make it difficult for older cast members to come back out because they were horrible! I'm sure if the challenges were "fun" like they used to be, more cast members would be willing to return. It's gotten better with Rivals and Exes but maybe that change was too late?
Theo Von just posted on his Twitter and Facebook that the reason why he doesn't do challenges anymore is because of the ridiculous final challenges. He even posted a video of a short recap. They need to stop making the final challenges insanely difficult. This is a Real World/Road Rules Challenge..Not Survivor!!
Amazing Race challenges are not that difficult and have much broader audience appeal. I thought Theo quit because he messed up his back.
Well he still gets asked and thats what he said on why he would never come back. The finals are too crazy now. The finals he participate in were really difficult but they didn't risk one's life! It's absurd now.
