Thanks for sharing what you did Sarah. I am really happy you're here posting. It's good for things to be cleared up for those of us watching the show. I thought there must have been more to what you were telling about your father since you said there were multiple incidents. It did sound odd that he only brought one sleeping bad for your camping trip - if you know your child was a victim of sexual abuse, why would you do something that might make her/him uncomfortable? But the other stuff you posted really showed the extremity of how far he took it and how extremely inappropriate he was. For anyone with any doubt about how he might have crossed the line, or for anyone who thought that was the worst it got, that definitely cements it.
I'm very sorry for what you experienced, sorry for not completely realizing how severe the situation was, and sorry that you are having such a hard time with the justice system concerning this situation.
I'm very happy to see how strong you are through this. I'm also very happy your relationship with your boyfriend is working out and I wish you the best - for now and in the future. I have enjoyed watching you on the show and have admired you since the first episode.

I love the one where Sarah is sticking her tounge out...it is super cute!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing Sarah. You are a strong person and I am sure you have inspired many people already and will continue to do so.
As far as the rest of the episode - with the exception of JD's drunken anctics - everyone is likable which is refreshing.
Something I did notice, which V1 and Katelynn briefly touched upon last week, was JD's comments about acting in NY to Devyn when they were in the car - as far as what you have to go through, her being naive, etc. Very telling.
I was so happy to read Sarah's post. My heart goes out to Sarah, Katelynn, and JD - they have been through things that nobody should ever have to go through. I just wish JD were as strong as the other two so he would not have to drink to mask the pain of what he's been through. In a way he reminds me of Joey from Hollywood - he seems like such a sweet caring guy but alcohol turns him into a monster. I hope he gets help too.
Chet - grow up! How some people let religion dictate how they live their life is beyond me.
Devyn - while I wasn't really a fan of her singing - the potential is there.
Ryan - I have a feeling next week will be intense - its going to be hard to watch that because I have a family member that may be leaving later this year.
Baya - girl can dance - I hope they show more of her dancing - and she seems like such a swet girl
Scott - can we PLEASE get more than one scene with Scott in it - I really would like to get to know him but editing has kept him faded in the background so far. He seems like a chill guy though - reminds me of a drinking buddy of mine!

I would equate Devyn's "naivety" to anyone finishing school and having big expectations. I remember feeling the same way: "Hey I went to college, I studied, I have a degree now, so, somebody give me a job!" It's a tough transition for anyone in any field, but she's got a great start I think.
Yeah, El Rey. To have drive is one thing, but the assumption that having a theater resume and a theater degree will give you the leg up isn't a good one to make. Many wannabe actors have those same things. Acting jobs won't necessarily come her way, and if push comes to shove she may have to do the side waitressing job or something to keep herself afloat until she does snag a job.

Chet: I have to disagree. For a guy to really let religion dictate his life, that takes a lot of strength. He is the type of guy I admire because he IS truly Mormon. I hate people who say they are religious but never really do anything to show that they are religious. Going to church, reading the bible, etc. are good but they don't make you religious unless you actually stick to the whole religion and Chet does that. I love him for that and that is one of the main reasons why he is my favorite character this season...
Ryan: Next episode looks GOOD. JD is really starting to look like the enemy though which isn't exactly what i was hoping but at least we can see more of Ryan and learn more about him.
Baya: I seriously adore her! She's so cute and so sweet. And she can really dance. It sort of turns me on to watch her pop it LOL. And I find it so cute when she wants to get into the school of dance but has nothing to write about... besides pop and lock
Scott: I think the problem with Scott is that he is really closed off and does not accept new people easily. That is why he is a little flirty with others because it seems to be a way to hide himself. He is closed off and probably will be the closed off character for most of the episode because it seems that he has a hard time opening up to people. If you rewatch the first episode he talks about Chet being immature and how he knows he can not tell Chet anything in the future because Chet will just end up blabbing it to everyone. This shows that he is unique, but also has trust issues so it will be hard for him to open up.
I hope that he eventually does open up though!

Though I was shocked by Chet thinking a person should be able to just simply and easily forgive someone for abuse, I don't think he fully understood what was going on. In that clip, we'd seen him witness Kate hit Sarah (playfully I think) on the arm, and Sarah told her that hurt. I can't remember the exact transition they had, but from there they were shown talking about abuse and Chet was talking about forgiving a boyfriend for hitting his girlfriend. If Chet thought the hitting was something like hit he'd seen in the car, I could see him wondering why that should be forgiven. However, it was clear to me Sarah was talking about worse, and I'm not so sure Chet picked up on it.
I think his reaction was more about him being naive to abusive situations than him being religious. Yes, religion did play a part because he was talking about having to forgive, but there are people who are quite religious who would understand that it's very hard to get past someone physically abusing you, and there are definitely religious people would not want to take back someone who is abusive, even if they managed to forgive them. Plus they would understand forgiveness would not come as easily in that situation.
Being very religious is a way of life for some people, but there are plenty of religious people who go through struggles and understand that it takes work to get through those and that everything isn't so cut and dry. Also, there are people who aren't religious but are very forgiving and are naive about certain situations and can't understand why people can't get over things quickly.
ETA: tomackze, I agree with what you said about Chet as well. He's not my favorite, though, but I do find him interesting. If you are religious, it is really supposed to shape your life. It's like having a set of norms to live by. Even people who are not religious have norms and morals they try to live by.
Exactly! I agree 100% RW, and as a radical Christian he probably does believe in forgiveness for anything. Because isn't that what the Church is supposed to teach you?
Forgive thy enemy...
I love Chet this season because if I was on the show, I would be Chet... I'd be that innocent, naive, person who will learn a lot and get a lot out of this season...

I know that sometimes his comments are a little naive, but Chet's intentions are good. and as for the religion thing, after living with him for almost four months, I learned just how devoted and dedicated he is. Honestly, it takes MUCH more work to hold out and be true to yourself than it does to give in to any temptation that comes your way. Chet is a strong person who is brave and should be admired for his commitment to his beliefs. If only the rest of the world followed though with the promises that they make to themselves like he has.... and on top of all that, Chet is a very accepting person.
Although we had very different views on many topics, he never once told me my ideas were wrong or bad. In fact, it was almost the opposite... I, myself, was guilty of that a few times..... point is, Chet is a great guy with a good heart and strong faith, and will always be a great friend.
When I told my own story, Chet was one of the most understanding and compassionate people in the house, and I'll always be thankful for his support during that time.

EXACTLY! Chet is awesome. Simply put... Not that you aren't Sarah because you are equally just as awesome...

Tomackze I completely concur with you completely especially about Chet. Chet is my absolute FAVORITE on the show and His strength in his religion is part of the reason why I like him. Being religous by just reading the bible/going to church is NOT enough. You should live your life for God.
I thought Ryan was closed minded and mean, but I've slowly learned that is not the case. He's genuinely nice and trying to open up to new things. However, it doesn't mean he still doesn't have his flaws and still has some things to work on. Ryan is my #2 fav now.
Baya absolute seetheart, very nice to everyone trying to make sure everyone gets along. She has a strong passion and drive for dance and DJing. I hope she suceeds in all her endevours. Baya is a very close #3
Besides those three people who I love, the rest are just OKAY for me.
Tomackze, your perception of scott is dead on and exactly my thoughts. He's the ONLY cast member to have his myspace set on private.
Tomkaze, wwe both share Very similar opinons/perceptions and feelings about the different people on this season.
Ryan is still very close minded by you have to see where he is coming from. He is still very naive and very young, you can not just expect him to be something he isn't right now. Where he was brought up, what he has experienced in life, defines who he is and it helps explain his naivety.
And we are very similar, it is very funny lol.
and you should not say the rest are just OKAY to you. Especially with Sarah and Katelynn posting here. They are just as awesome, if not more awesome for spending their own time to post in our great forum.
Personally for me, no one in this season has not been someone i can "love". I mean it is definitely harder to "love" some characters like Scott and Dev because they haven't really opened up enough and you really do not know much about them but their goofiness, but they still have great qualities that I "love."
Which makes this season amazing, it is unique because the cast isn't a typical "Real World" cast but because of that, it has become a more lovable cast
Sarah, thank you for your posts. Has anyone ever told you that you resemble Reece Witherspoon?
I was wondering if your siblings have any contact with your father? I think the creepiest part was when you told him not to call and he was like, "We'll see". Psycho. He obviously has control issues. Oh, and of course I wanted to comment on how cute you and your bf are!
What would happen if your father were to read what you wrote above about what he did to you? Could that come back to haunt you in some way? I definitely feel for you and hope that this is able to be resolved in the future.

I just haven't connected with the others like i have those 3. However, there still the resty of this season for the others not in my top 3 to grow on me. Your right it isn't the typical real world cast that's probably why this season is in my top 2 all time real world's. I personally think Ryan has grown alot, so far.
Sarah, thanks for posting your story it was truly amazing.
Ryan is still very close minded...
I don't get that from him at all. What I see in him is more of a "What the **** is that?" response when he encounters something beyond his experience base. Beyond that immediate response, which is always "good camera," he seems quite open to new and different experiences. I can only presume that is why he wanted to be on the show.
Personally for me... the two i have most identified with early on would probably be.
1. Chet --> Love him, can relate to him
2. Katelynn --> So interesting, and sort of can relate to her
then there is Sara, Ryan, Dev, Scott, JD who I also love but those two are definitely the ones i can identify with most. And of course Baya, who I love to watch on TV. Love her look, love her attitude... Maybe i have a thing for her?

I really REALLY need to look at my choice of words. I meant naive, inexperienced, "newb" when i said close minded.

I think the editing or perhaps my communication was really bad on that one. It's not so much that I think that going to school and having a degree guarantees you a job in your field (I have numerous friends with degrees in theatre that are working in an area outside of entertainment) I was just stating the fact that I studied entertainment in college as a way of supporting my declaration that I am very serious about my craft. Millions of people say that they would love to be in a movie one day.... when it comes down to it only a fraction of those same individuals are dedicated enough to devote their studies to something specifically in that field. That's all. I definitely don't think I will snap my fingers and get a dream job in entertainment however there are two things that I am very certain of .... God did not bring me this far to leave me and You are never given a dream without being given the ability to achieve that dream! So why not have high hopes and reach for the sky.. even if I fall I will land among the clouds... Or..like I've told a boy or two.. we are all entitled to a little wishful thinking.. ;-)
And thank you guys SOO SOO Much for being supportive of both the nerve racking impromptu sing off and the rollers and face mask.. ha ha definitely not shining moments... and in a world that can be so destructive its so awesome to be able to read things so funny and uplifting from someone I have yet to meet. Thank you.
Dev you were awesome though it definitely isn't your comfort zone. You need more impromptu because your voice is too beautiful to waste on "prepared stuff". My motto is that the best always comes least expected because it is the most natural
I think the reason I don't understand Chet is because he reminds me of a childhood friend of mine. We both went to a private religious school growing up - and while I became a rebel who would not live my life the way I was taught, he let our religious teachings not only dictate his life but also who he was friends with - needless to say he and I no longer speak. Of course his religion is Baptist not Mormon but its all the same.
Sarah, thanks for giving me your insight about Chet. I will try to be a little more understanding of him now. (not sure if I'm saying that right - sorry V1man!)
hi everyone, i know people love to come up with their own ideas of what happened but there are many of you out there who need to know the truth so you stop assuming ..sooo to clear up things about my dad:
First off: NO ONE at MTV or Bunim/Murray gave him my number. I suspect that it was a family member of mine, but no one wants to fess up.
second: there were NUMEROUS incidents that took place, but because he was not convicted, MTV cant put it on the air due to laws against slander. SO they kept it brief and to the point, hoping that people out there would pick up on the sexual abuse undertones. (clearly some picked up on that better than others) what really happened?: He showed me and my little brothers S&M pornography when we were little kids, told us thats how beautiful women look. He stood in front of me naked and tried to get me in to bed with him.... need i go on??
and WHY ISNT HE IN JAIL you ask? well: his brother is a lawyer and his entire family in law is in the judicial system... judges, lawyers, etc... all he does is call in a favor and everything gets tossed out or we get buried in paperwork. and i was a kid, I certainly couldnt afford a lawyer and my mom is a single mom with three kids trying to make ends meet. We did our best ... but it was never good enough. which is why I went on the show: to share my story of injustice.
Last but not least: why there is no restraining order... well, thats my own fault. I have put it on my list of things to do SOOO many times, but every time, i chicken out... you have to understand that ive spent literally YEARS getting the runaround by the courts. and EVERY time that ive ever spoken to a judge or court official, they've told me that there isnt enough evidence and theres nothing i can do... and it KILLS me to hear that.. and im scared to hear it again.. but im working on it...
hopefully this answered a few questions .....

Ahh, thank you so much for clearing that up Sarah. The way it came across on the show was that your Mom was feeding you lies and that your Dad didn't do anything wrong. "We were going camping and he brought a sleeping bag, so I called my Mom." My friends and I thought that it was crazy and that you were full of it.
However, after what you said, now I understand what's going on. Thank you very much for clearing that up and I hope one day you do get justice.

Yeah...the BMP edit definitely made me think that parts of your story were missing, Sarah, but thanks so much for coming in and giving us even more details and letting us in. You truly are an inspiration and a model for many out there to look up to.
