The Challenge: Our Hopes For The Future (Spoilers)

Its easy to convince people to do a quick trip for a day or an skype interview than put their life in hold to film a reality show on MTV for 6 week the majority of people from the oldest eras have other responsabilities at home to do that.  Even though by the looks of it they still had a hard time doing that since Heather/Danny declined.

Users here act like they dont try to get some MEMMORABLE CAST MEMBERS (not the randoms that only vevmonians care about)  from past "eras" to do the challenge, they are just in different stages in their life and declined BMP/MTV offers.

Well clearly not because they got old-schoolers willing to go on but don't use them.

Keyword memorable and by memmorable I mean people like Coral/Verobica/Beth/trashelle/etc. People that they know would make some kind of impact.

Not kalifa or w.e is his name from road rules that someone here message me about once.

That wasn't even who I was talking about.

I know you weren't talking about him, I was just giving an example of some the random cast members that some people come up on here that they want BMP to ask.

You are probably talking about Darrell or Mark?

Which has been stated & proven time & time again so I'm not about to repeat myself with that lmao

Of course Coral/Veronica/Beth/Katie will be getting calls until this show ends, as they should. It's been stated thousands of times. Those are not the only vets they can ask.

Yep. And Neither are random(well..Mark kinda is and really I'd rather him stay off the show as long as Backpack is on them). But Darrell will definetly bring something to the show.

I dont want to see Mark ever again, I always though he was boring.

I do agree about Darrell

Y'all wanted it, here it is. My motherfucking opinion. Or at least part of it.

Going forward, this show has no future. Point blank. BMP and MTV have screwed themselves royally with reliance on "easy-selling" themes and consistently casting the same few people over and over and over again. It's as if they've been baking a big ass fucking turd, and it's spinal tap time because that bitch is exiting sideways.

The biggest issue is their belief that a "strong" theme outweighs a stellar cast. The issue with that is that your theme is diluted when the people you cast to fit that theme aren't even the prime candidates you truly want. If you can't get the players you want, don't go through with it just for the sake of doing so. MTV has settled for failure time and time again, and the standard is continually lowered.

I'm not even going to fully discuss the casting on this show. It's atrocious, plain and simple. And I'm not even referring to Are You The One? because they're arguably one of the better changes given how sick I am of Bananas, Nany, and Leroy. When I want to see CT back, you know it's bad. The biggest issue, however, is the lack of cross-era representation. Did anyone watch Survivor: Cambodia? That cast was the definition of historically diverse. From season 1 to season 30, every generation was represented and it fucking slayed anything The Challenge will ever pull off it its current state. Varner went out fourth, but he came in with the intention of being the villain, and though extra as fuck, he accomplished that very task. Kimmi was the person the jury wanted to see make it to the end, and she almost pulled off a huge move. Old Schoolers can make an impact, shunning them is foolish. But casting people who have either already played all their cards, or simply bring nothing to the table at all is even more foolish.

For those unaware, Bloodlines was originally sold to MTV as a significant others season. MTV changed it because it would exclude several of their precious gems like Leroy and Camila. They then told the individual that pitched them the original idea that MTV is never going old school again... That's a pretty fucking disgusting statement when you think about it. Instead of real relationships, we were treated to the regulars and their cousins, and several pairs who are completely unrelated. Relation by marriage doesn't make you a bloodline. (Would you look at that? An example of a weak use of a "strong" theme!)

The one thing that truly pisses me off is editing. The editing on this show is un-fucking-believable... It is literally a clip show conglomerate fuck. Everyone wants to see fights and arguments, but majority of the time they're just insignificant little arguments for camera time. What happened to storytelling? Hostility and feuds that brewed over a multitude of episodes, or hell even seasons? It's all about instant gratification with no payoff or satisfaction. Instead we get an intercut of people fighting for no god damn reason. Like okay, what was the point? There's no reason to care about conflict or characters on this show anymore. It's more of a "oh shit, I need a Rival" ordeal. Superficial and fucking lazy on both production and the cast's behalf. Everyone is talking about how lit the Rivals III trailer is... Like y'all remember Katie vs Veronica or nah? That shit was heat like the motherfucking Sun.

I could go on and on. But we live in a world with a fragmented young generation. They can't handle a slowburn narrative. They want it right here right now. That's the audience MTV caters to. The instantly gratified, the new age bingers. Reality TV isn't meant to be a format that can be binged, and you can't have hope for the future when there isn't one to hope for.

I'm incapable of replying where anything substance is concerned, being that I got two/three hours of sleep, but this shit was on point, Lurker.

You just won the Internet. Literally could not have been anymore on point.

Old Schoolers made The Challenge. If it weren't for them, we would never have this show. All this trash that we're getting now is a big slap in the face to past castmembers.

I started watching this during The Ruins. So not very long ago. I can remember the Wes/Darrell fight, the KellyAnne/Darrell fight, the Tonya/Veronica fight, the Cohutta/Wes/KellyAnne/Johanna shit, and Sarah/Katie. After that, I had to watch more (past and present), but I'm not like Graphik/Debut Album/Youssarian/Justintime where I've watched every early season from the very start. I do appreciate the Old Schoolers, however. Their past is what makes them entertaining for the present. And I'm aware this is like beating a dead horse, but y'all need to understand where Lurker/the rest of us is coming from.

You started at The Ruins? Talk about a Rocky ass start.

I also want to touch on something Lurker pointed out in his post.

The fact that production thinks that the theme is more important than the cast...you can thank RIvals 1 for that. Cast-Wise it was bascially the same old asshole regulars(at the time) but the theme was so fresh and new that alot of people LOVED it and touted it as one of the best seasons ever. From then on they focused on the them instead of cast and alot of the shows going forward ended up suffering for it. Rivals 1 doing well is one reason for the state of the challenge now.

I've seen The Challenge as a "generations" type thing. There's been different generations throughout this show with the different ways of casting and formatting and what not.

I would say Guantlet 3-before was the first generation. That old school challenge with the people who kinda made the show. Then they did Fresh Meat and bought on all these new people. Then the Real World seasons during that time bought on these larger than life characters like Wes, Bananas, Jen, etc. and I think we saw the beginning of the 2nd generation and if you notice those of the 1st generation kinda got shut out and they only bought back those household names who really made an impact and had a fanbase during generation 1 but they were not overused. Even Ct, Aneesa, and Tonya took breaks during generation 2 and were not on every season.

Then you had Fresh Meat 2 and I think that bought on Generation 3 and ended the second generation. However, the household names of generation 2 moved over into this generation but like the generation 1 people, many moved on simply stopped getting calls because you saw a new generation happen and they were the main focus. So Cancun-Portland, Camila, and Fresh Meat 2 made up majority of the cast and these real world people really stood out. The second generation real world people kinda disappeared or never really got a chance with the Hollywood, Brooklyn, Sydney, Denver, Philadelphia seasons. You saw the same people but with the third generation real world seasons we saw more variety and people getting second chances. Still missed out on a few though. Second generation people also moved over into this generation like Diem, Bananas, Wes, Paula, all the popular ones of last generation. Some generation 1 people came back as well like Mark, Aneesa, CT, Rachel, and Abram. If you notice though, they didn't really do that many challenges in the second generation so their presence in the 3rd generation was more tolerable IMO. They over used the second generation people during the 3rd which is why we are left tired of them.

But now, we have a 4th generation I think. Ex-Plosion to GBGH, Bloodlines, and AYTO. And Rivals 3 is like the beginning of the 4th generation because as you see less 3rd generation people are on that season and the ones that are are the "popular" household names which is what they did with generation 3. The 2nd generation is like the first generation at this point. Only ones left are really Bananas and Wes. And the first generation as really been phased out. Aneesa is left and maybe CT but all the others come back when needed like Abram but other than that they will cast majority 4th generation cast members with a touch of the 3rd generation and after that Bananas and Wes.

However, the 4th generation hasn't really created household names yet. Maybe Cory, Jenna, I think they are trying to make Vince something, possibly Tony, but they need more people especially from the real world to debut in order for this to work. I also think this generation will see the end of the 1st and 2nd generation people as they won't fit themes anymore and eventually not be cast. Because the newer generation will take over. We are just in a new wave and I'm okay with that but they need to start casting better people from this new wave.

I honestly don't mind Devin and Cheyenne , they weirdly fit like they were c supposed to be in RW or RR but everyone else from AYTO can stay home

I'm kinda hoping moving forward the new Challenge casted Challenger regulars are Anthony , Mitch , Michael , Raphy (over Dario) , Nicole , Rianna , Victoria  (Since she was cast) , Cheyenne and Devin.

Then we get any combination of Abram , Aneesa , C.T , Wes , Cohutta , Isaac , KellyAnne , Brianna , J.D , Jonna Brandon , Cara-Maria , Laurel , Theresa , Jemmye , Adam R. , Dustin , Cooke , Naomi , Nany/Leroy  (After a break) , Frank , Zach , Marie , Robb , Averey , Johnny , Joi , Jordan  , Marlon , Nia , Brian , Cory  and Thomas .

I'm on the fence with The girls of Ex-Plosion  and The casts of Skeletons and GBOGH , like I wouldn't mind seeing them but I'm not like dieing to see them on a challenge.

I will first say that I don't give a shit about how negative myself & any other longtime viewers come off when discussing how this show can be made BETTER. I honestly feel like I'm not even hard to please, but when it's obvious what they could be doing to make the show better & they blatantly refuse to do it, then of course I will state my opinion on it, however many times I see fit.

I honestly couldn't care less about AYTO being on the show anymore, its just how they went about doing it....repeating the same mistakes yet again.

I have more to say but I'll do it later lol I hate typing/swyping on my phone.

great point badladjj. that's what I was thinking. I think a new generation/era is coming with or after rivals 3.

this show has changed so much from when I first started watching The Island but I'm a die-hard fan so I will be watching The Challenge until the day it ends. although I'm not super crazy about casting and limiting themes I know it's not as easy as people on here make it seem. you guys have all these ideas that could make the show better but so many different factors fall into the pre production stage so I'm sure they're not trying to this show some god awful mess that you guys make it seem like it is

bmp and mtv aren't going to cater the show to vevmo or old people on facebook. all the people I know my age love are you the one and most people my age have never heard or watched this show until are you the one started popping up on the show

They could cater to ALL fans..old and new. I'm pretty sure they can find a middle ground between that.

You know what they could start with? Not being lazy with the cast. And as Lurker said, don't do a Challenge for the sake of doing it. Rivals 3 was rushed; and as a result, its not appealing to many people.
