I like how you think Lionsfan! Haha.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

Hands down Giants to repeat there just to good.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

I know it is baseball and anything can happen, but its hard to imagine anything but a Phillies-Red Sox world series in my opinion.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

Phillies over (in a shocker) Rays in 5.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

You made me giggle a little.

The Rays lost: Carl Crawford, Rafael Soriano, Carlos Pena, Joaquin Benoit, Lance Cormier, Grant Balfour, Dan Wheeler, Randy Choate, Jason Bartlett, Matt Garza, Fernando Perez, Zach Rosscup, Willy Aybar, Gabe Kapler, Dioner Navarro, Brad Hawpe, Rocco Baldelli, Chad Qualls and Dale Thayer.

I don't think a post PEDs Manny and aging Damon are going to make up for what went out the door.

They have a lot of young talent, but it is not enough to compete this year in the brutal AL East (at least in my opinion.)

I only said it cause' anybody other than the Red Sox would be fine. ;)

Honestly, I think that there are alot of AL teams that can make a run.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

Rangers make a trade for a sick pitcher at the trade deadline and go the world series again. You heard it here first, Rays won't make playoffs.

Neither will the Rangers if they dont improve their pitching staff.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

That's a really weird list mark reynolds, jose verlarde, jacoby ellsbury, shouldnt be considered as part of the top 100.

Because the league is full of guys that can bat over .300 and steal 70 bags in a season, right? :wink2:

The Rangers pitching staff will be just fine, they were good before they got Cliff Lee last year. He helped them tremendously in the playoffs, they would not have defeated the rays or yankees without him but they still would have made the playoffs without him. They were in 1st place the majority of the season. Neftali Feliz is going to be competing for a spot in the rotation and he will be a very good starting pitcher and if he stays at closer thats fine too. Hopefully they can get something out of Brandon Webb but im not holding my breathe on that one.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

Lester vs. Halladay right now on ESPN.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

You know what amazes me?

All these teams with empty seats on opening day. It was sad...

Opening day! If any day, the stadium should be sold out.

People wonder why the Red Sox and Yankees have so much money to spend on payroll.

I'll solve the mystery. The fans go to the games and watch them on TV. The fans give them money to spend on payroll.

I have no sympathy for any team that can't sell out opening day. Especially when the best seats in the house cost less than bleacher seats in the aforementioned team's parks.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

I don't normally comment on Yankee players, being I hate them as a geographical fact.

That said, I applaud the yanks in picking up Burnett off of the waiver wire. I was thinking of grabbing him in the last round but I could not. (i.e. I don't roll with Yankees, yanks.)

Burnett might be getting older, but last season was an anomaly. He has the bats of the Yankees behind him and is going to get lots of "tens" (i.e. wins) plus innings to offset his worse than average ERA. I think he is a great sleeper.

It was a good move.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

There is a baseball thread? Awesome!

I agree with whoever said, it's sad that they are empty seats on Opening Day.
My team (the Giants) play away until next weekend. And that weekend is completely SOLD OUT.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

I'm pretty sure Tigers opening day sold out in an hour or so. It's impossible to get tickets.

Watching the Tigers-Yankees game yesterday was ridiculous seeing all of those empty seats.

I love to see empty seats at Yankee Stadium (there are kids in kindergarten in the Boston metro that have never seen that at Fenway.)

Hey, if you are going to make a baseball game more expensive than a cruise, you deserve to have empty seats.

Here is the kicker...

The Yankees raked. As they do every game.

Can you imagine Tampa Bay Rays fans paying a few grand for seats? Haha.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

2011 will be the year the BIG RED MACHINE returns to power. Mark my words.

You mean the Big Red Sox Machine. Fixed that for you!

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

This game is not going well.

Not a good game as a Sox fan, but I saw lots of potential.

Good game for Rangers fans :). The Sox will be fine, Adrian Gonzalez is going to have a monster year. The red sox barring major injuries will be the best team in baseball. I'm just glad the rangers arent going to get swept this weekend.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

Brandon Lyon blowing saves already? I thought he usually had a good week or 2 before he miserably failed...

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

Probably the last day this season that the Yankees will be in first and the BSox last. Even as a die-hard Yankee fan, I recognize the dynasty is wheel-chair bound this season, and probably for the next 3-4.

Some teams seem to hold big blocks of tickets and then only release the extra on game day. I have always assumed they do it out of some combo of selling tickets on mark up through ticket vendors or set aside for possible corporate interest. If you are willing to take the chance, you can sometimes buy really good seats over the dugouts for really cheap prices on game day for day games at the park's ticket window. I have done that a few times at a few different parks when I happened to be in town with nothing to do.

re: Major League Baseball: 2012

It has been a brutal two days. I'd like to get out of Texas with a W.

I was pretty impressed by his opening day performance despite the runs he allowed yesterday i think he's going to be ok much better than last year. He was making batters miss.

Interesting decision by Francona.

It's the right call. Gonzo should bat 3rd anyway and there is no harm in taking a little of the pressure off of Crawford until he gets rolling.
