From what I hear, that's EXTREMELY painful! Poor guy! He gained respect from me.
I rarely ever hear him talk about it! It's usually someone else bringing it up!
My sentiments exactly.
If Jessica loses on Wednesday, than seriously they might as well tell women next season not to audition, because there will be no purpose for them to be in the competition if they're going lose. That will be 6 years straight without a female winner, and I'm confident it will never change. They should do what So You Think You Can Dance? is doing and have a male & female winner. Women don't tend to do well on voting shows. P.S. Don't tell me America has been getting it right the past 4 seasons when in fact only one of those winners were nominated (Scotty for Best New Artist), and when the show use to be fair, and about talent, 3 out of 4 female winners were performing at the Billboard Awards (Kelly,Carrie,Jordin)! Archie should have won season 7, Adam season 8, and Crystal season 9. Scotty was obviously the correct winner.

And also, So You Think You Can Dance only ever has 1 winner...

There is a lot that goes on before those are ever released and not that many non-Idol Artists go to number 1 and win tons of awards on their first album. I think the Idol winner only gets a 1 album contract unless they changed that. I think the issue with women might be the song choices. A lot of the themes/assigned songs etc tend to favor rock out songs which are more difficult for women to pull off vocally IMHO. I don't remember any of their names (I am bad with those anyway) but as an infrequent viewer over time I can say I have seen women, particularly African-American women, go home much too early when they could really sing the songs suited for their voices 20 times better than anybody else in the room. There just weren't many weeks where the songs favored their strengths. As a talent contest, they should be able to sing whatever they want; but as big business, they can't allow that.

As a talent contest, they should be able to sing whatever they want; but as big business, they can't allow that.
I always had a mindset that sales=success. I know it's wrong, but when an album does well, an artist stamps their mark in the music industry. I always defined it as best sales figures. An example, Britney who isn't musically acclaimed, sold over 100 million albums worldwide (only artist from this generation to do is Eminem), and +200 million records. I consider her a successful artist, because she made a mark in the industry, and will always be remembered, while someone like Jonsi (who I'm a fan of), will be critically acclaimed, but never be known or have a major success story. So sales=success. When an Idol doesn't become the most successful of their season, that means they shouldn't have won. Theirs a certain group/demo that vote with their eyes and not ears. The following year they find their next eye candy, and forget about the winner, and typically not buy their records. It's a shame when the person that truly deserved to win, doesn't get the promotion/label support needed as the winner, because of the advantage white males with guitars have on this show. If Phillip wins I could already see the headache he's going to cause the A&R team, because he doesn't like taking advice, and many of the past singer/songwriter winners were the same way, and that's the reason they've been dropped, and resulted in low sales. Some of these singer/songwriters don't understand you have to put out a friendly pop record before you can release material you truly want. It's very rare for that genre or style to sell well to the mass public, it's a reason they're called coffee shop artist or music. I'm not saying Phillip will not succeed, but there's a large probability that he will fail as a pop artist, and Idol is about finding the next POP artist! Ever since the inclusion of instruments this theory of the person needs to win because they're a true "artist" began. It's sad because more valuable pop acts, would not be produced from the show, because we keep getting a singer/songwriter winner, and they keep failing in the charts, and making Idol more and more less relevant. Idol is lucky X-Factor or The Voice haven't found a Kelly/Carrie yet. Idol needs successful winners to continue on, and the chances of Phillip being more successful are far less than Jessica. You can give Jessica a typical Top 40 song, and it will be successful, and bring back credibility to the general audience that Idol can still produce a star. Also I agree with you on the disadvantages women have on this show! Not only are the themes geared more to men, but things like overpraise, pimping, and again the whole "artist" and "quirky" comments. P.S. Sorry for my long rant, but it really gets me mad when the best person doesn't win!
SYTYCD is going to start having 2 winners this season. Nigel tweeted they will be a male and female winner from now on.
I really hate that idea. That kind of takes away the entire competition in my opinion.
P.S. Producer, I think maybe with Britney you are either overstating her talent as an artist or not fully considering that she had Disney behind her and Justin Timberlake on her arm at the time she broke out. Without those two things, I doubt she would have reached the numbers she did. I think of her more as being the Kardashian of her generation who could sing. She was a totally packaged product from the beginning. American Idol has no real interest in anybody's success after the show other than promoting the show so its a different dynamic. I felt that one of the reasons Simon left was because he looked at it the way you do, and nobody else did, and he was tired of the ridicule. I am not sure you can be a superstar pop artist without being heavy on the commercial marketing/promotional side and America "getting it wrong" is really more America looks at the factors that are oriented toward the non-musical aspects of fame. The winners spend a year locked into a contract with people who have no long-term interest in them so they fail on the branding straight off the blocks IMO when that branding is a bigger part of sales than ever before.

A majority of the winners don't fit the pop category at all...Definitely not a pop competition. It's a singing competition of all genres where America picks who they like the best based on a mixture of singing (to make it to the Top 13, you know they are automatically a good singer), personality, and luck. Jessica obviously only has the voice.

It goes back to what I said before, I knew Phillip will make the Top 2 the second I saw him audition, and that's sad! I still keep hope for a girl winner, or even another type of winner, but I can't call it a competition if the same type of guy always wins. It may be TV, but it's also music, and Music=Life to me. Music is everything to me, so I take this show seriously. If an Idol has a successful era, or song they stayed signed to their label (ex:Kris Allen, "Live like you're dying sold 1 million copies), but like any new artist if you have one bad album or era, you're getting dropped. By the way Britney first two albums went Diamond (10 million copies each), before she dated Justin. She wasn't part of Disney either. Her career started at 12-13 years old, but ended when Disney canceled Mickey Clubhouse (or something like that). She left the entertainment industry for a couple of years, and came back at age 16 signed to a major label (Jive Records at the time). She stamped her popularity with the "Baby one more time" video. I song and music video that will always be remembered in pop history. She is far from what a Kardashian is. She is portrayed like that now of days, because of all the paparazzi that follows her. Nothing will change either of our minds and I'm sick of it. You're not 100% right and neither am I. It's all based on opinion. No matter how you see it, it's still a competition in the long run. PS: You take it WAY too seriously. You act like I'm killing someone every time I talk down about Jessica. Btw, Nicki Minaj doesn't fit the "pop" genre at all. She's a hip-hop/rap artist just like you said. It's nowhere near pop, like Katy Perry, etc. I gave this season of Idol a chance halfway through, but if Jessica wins, I'm done for good.

In most weeks he's out of tune, he isn't unique, he's a lesser version of Dave Mathews, and he rarely sings the melody correctly in the songs he picks. I just don't see the appeal, especially that I could find a better version of Phillip Phillip in my city. Even if you were right Jessica only has the vocals, at least she stays on key mostly, and outsings him by a mile. I just can't see how you like Phillip hahah, he's been mostly terrible this season. I feel the same way as you, but if Phiillip wins I'm done with Idol for good, because it's clear to me only white male guitarist, with mediocre vocal abilities, will win.

I never said I like him. I just would rather someone like Jessica not win. From what Jessica has shown me (I've already told you I haven't watched the majority of the season), it's not what I would want in an American Idol. I'd rather have someone like Phillip who can hold an audience. Jessica just puts me to sleep.
Wait producer you were saying Archuleta should have won over Cook? Not only was Cook brilliant during the show, didn't he sell more than Archuleta. Cook sold about 1.3 with his first cd and 120 ish with his second. Archuleta sold like 900,000 K for his cd, 200 something for his second and 60 something for his third. I also preferred Kris Allen to Adam Lambert, I own Kris's first cd and am getting his second. I did enjoy both on the show though.

His rendition of "Billie Jean" in my opinion is seriously one of the best performances on Idol ever! I blame his post-Idol career failures to his management to be honest. He could have been huge. He did sell more albums, but not by a wide margin. Archie sold more records than Cook, so I see Archie to be more successful. Records are (album+singles+ringtones+vinyls etc), and Archie actually had a hit single "Crush" while Cook "Lights on" peaked I think at 65. Plus he had a better international career. Kris also had a great performance with "Heartless" but Adam had soooo many moments that I lost count! He should have easily won that season! Allison should have been Top 3 as well. I don't know why Gokey made it that far. Another thing I did forget to mention is Jessica's international appeal! Wow this girl could be marketable world wide!! PLEASE GOD LET JESSICA WIN!!

My issue with Lauren last season, and what cost her the competition was her limitation, or better yet herself holding back. There were times that Lauren could have picked better songs, and truly pushed her vocals! She never challenged herself. Lauren just played it wayyy to safe! She went from #1 at the start of the Top 24 betting odds sites, to #3 by Top 4. As a fan it was making me mad how many times she didn't go all the way, or pulled back. I still rooted for her cause her natural voice. Oh my God her voice was magical! I could hear her sing stories with that voice! Example her song "The Locket" or "Eighteen Inches" (my 3rd favorite on the album). She also had something charming about her. I knew she will be a great country star! By the way so happy for her Teen Choice Awards nominations! Hopefully she wins! Phillip to me isn't unique, and has been inconsistent throughtout the season.

She wasn't choosing songs right for her or she would pick songs that were super easy. Do they not have mentors that help them choose songs that are vocally for them? I never really got that.
And by off key, I really meant pitchy. She wasn't choosing songs right for her or that were super easy. It was cause of Lauren as well haha. The Idols's still picked the song, but Jimmy tells them how to perform it. They need to do it like X-Factor and have someone give the contestanrs songs that fit them! Example Phillip singing "We've got tonight" AMAZING (picked by Jimmy)!!! Yet Phillip made certain song selections that made me just shake my head! I think this show would be much better if someone picked the Idol's songs, or helped them creatively like an A&R! That's what they need, an A&R to give them the right songs & help market themsleves. Lauren should have stuck to story telling songs like "Candle in the wind" or "Anyway" Another example, why did they allow Colton perform "Bad Romance" & dress like he did during it! Especially that he said he wanted to be a Christian artist. That was just bad bad bad idea. They need to give the contestant an A&R.
Funny, I knew you'd give a Phillip example. Yet every single person has done it this season, including Jessica.
True but just went wrong with one song, and that was "Turn the beat around" she was screaming it, and I'm happy she stayed away from that type of music. Jessica still had more moments than Phillip "Love you I do" "Everybody has a dream" "Stuttering" (shame America doesn't know that great song by Jazmin Sullivan) "I will always love you" "The Prayer" "Dance with my father" "And I am telling you" "Sweet Dreams" there's a reason all those videos are the top videos for Idol's YouTub page. Phillip only had 3 great moment "Volcano" "We've got tonight" "U got it bad" the rest were either good, ok, or bad. On finals night Jessica has more options for encore, my personal imo should be between: "Everybody has a dream" (the song that relates to her now) "The Prayer" (her most emotional vocal performance) "I will always love you" (the most popular performance of the season)
I really hate that idea. That kind of takes away the entire competition in my opinion.
I agree, I would hate for 2 winners. like why the hell? I mostly just want to listen to songs, not see the person live so I don't really care that Jessica is robotic or bland or whatever. I judge the voice solely because that is likely all I'll ever experience. Unfortunately I don't think she or PP will make a record with songs that fit my tastes. Kinda like Adam... his first album was passable but the single he performed a couple of weeks ago on Idol was horrible... just not my type of music. Really sad because I know he's so much better than that, but these days being an artist true to yourself doesn't sell (same problem PP has I think).
Next season, they should get a new panel.
