My Time Across The Pond You would think my Southern palate would be able to take all the grease and the fried food. The last couple of times I was in Germany it was unbearable. Especially in less popular tourist towns where the menus were in German. It was a total crapshoot. The common theme was grease, fat, snitzel, potatoes and suspect sausage. My sister-in-law mistakenly ordered a hog's head. This was in a restaurant that was 700 years old without any English speakers and no recognizable german words. Pretty funny. But the hefewiezens and the smoked beer made up for the food.

Re: Cheers! The look on the girls face is pretty priceless. And I don't think the guy has realized what has happened yet, he looks a little dazed, lol.

Re: Cheers! I would love to go to Germany, despite the questionable sausage. I have been a few places in the UK (where I am convinced that almost all of the food sucks!), but I also got to go to Italy when I was a junior and the food there is AWESOME! What did you go to Germany for, vacay?

Re: Cheers! I went a couple of times in college and more recently my brother lived over there for like a year. He worked at Seimens, the GE of Europe as an engineer, so we had a free place to stay. I would highly recommend going to Germany, it is so clean and lovely. I have been all over Germany from Erlagen down to Fussen and it is wonderful. The beer outweighs the food issue for me, we did have some nice meals in munich, also I am a fan of Reislings,so I liked the wine and the vineyards. The food was so bad in England, I agree. But I was in college during that tour so I was poor. I am an anglophile so it was worth the bad food. Love the accent.

Re: Cheers! That is awesome! God I really need to travel more in my adult life! I want to go to Germany, Holland, Switzerland, and France. And that's just in Europe! ![]() Yeah, when I was in England and Ireland and Wales, I pretty much ate toast most of the time. No lie. I remember getting an 'american style pizza' from the store and it was THE WORST PIZZA EVER. EVER EVER!! But being amidst so much beauty and history, food wasn't a huge priority. Although, I remember being frustrated that I couldn't seem to find Mountain Dew anywhere, as all I ever really saw were Coke products. And what was funny is when I asked around about it, they thought I was asking for moonshine, lol!

Re: Cheers! In Italy I only went to Rome. I was there for this thing in 2000 called World Youth Day, it was a big Catholic worldwide youth conference type deal. So not a ton of site seeing, but it was still cool to be there none the less. And in the UK, I have been all over Ireland three times, also visited England, Wales, and Scottland for like two days.

Re: Cheers! I am jealous, I want to go to Ireland and Scotland so bad. That is to be my next trip. I have even read James Joyce in anticipation of the trip. What cities in Ireland did you go to? I have considered a couple of different routes through Ireland..
