Macs and Virus Protection software

Any mac users out there actually have virus protection?

Most people say its not needed....but my bro keeps haunting me to get it.

Don't have a mac, but it sounds like virus writers are starting to fancy OS X. So, if your system has plenty of resources, I don't think it would hurt to add an extra level of protection.

I hear most mac users are totally against virus scan and say that as long as you are not offering the root password to random programs you should be safe.

Root password............meaning the admin password, right? I have it set up so that it won't install anything without my own personal password. prompts me everytime, even for system updates from Apple, iTunes, etc

nevermind, they're different. im researching it now

on mac-forums, they kinda talked me OUT of the anti-virus software so idk i might hold off a liiittle more
