Hotlinking

Anyone been to: http://gauntlet3.blogspot.com/ ? If you haven't, don't bother. Nothing really there.

He has been hotlinking our pictures (and lifting our content) so I figured that I would just change all the images he was linking to with a little (.htaccess) magic and stop the bandwidth theft. At first I used hardcore shock pornography to replace the hot linked images....but then I grew a conscience and just left a minor warning with the replacement picture. I think it is funny, and that is all that counts!

Bacchus my dear, you crack me up with your ingenious plots and ploys, are you by any chance taking on an apprentice...if not then I will just stoop to following you around and watching your moves until you have no choice but to call me gr****opper so I suggest you just say yes.

Re: Hotlinking

Just so we don't fall into the same traps as mentioned above I have added an image upload option here on Vevmo. When your are in the advanced reply box (not quick reply) you will see a "quick upload" button on the right. Clicking that will bring up a box that will allow you to choose a photo off of your hard drive and directly host it here rather then having to go to Flickr or another online source and upload it, then link to that.

In firefox you will see actually see the image. In Internet Exploder it will just drop in the proper code for you (without preview.)

So, if you want to post a picture, this is an easy way to do it and hopefully will lower the temptation to suck bandwidth off of other sites (Of course if it is TMZ or EW I could care less, but better to follow protocol.)

P.s. The images will be watermarked.

Re: Hotlinking

Bacchus speak in the English please.

For example what I did was not proper protocol with the casting pics for BB and Survivor. I should have saved them onto my hard drive then uploaded them to vevmo?????

But I sourced those sites. That's okay right?

Sourcing is a must (and you did that) for content but you also directly linked to the URL of the photos on their server. So when they are viewed on this site it eats their bandwidth. In reality you are actually viewing the images from their server. So if that page gets 10,000 hits here - they get 10,000 hits worth of bandwidth taken without seeing one visitor.

You did not have an option to upload to vevmo in the past. That is why I just added it (to address any future issues.) Previously, people would download photos from someones blog, then upload them to a place like photobucket, and then link to that copy here.

No harm, no foul Kath. Just download all the images from those two posts and then re-upload using the new system. That way we are not being hypocrites, and secondly I need to see if it actually works.
