Anyone remember Tubescan?

I used to go to this message board called Tubescan (formerly, Tubescanboard.com). It was run by a Kevin and Joanne...but for some reason was just taken down. Was wondering if any people on this forum were former Tubescanners or if anyone knows why it came down.

I actually have always wondered what happened to tubescan. I was not an active member, but did post occasionally. It seemed to disappear right in the middle of the Road Rules Viewer's Revenge season, all of a sudden, without notice.

Tubescan was owned as a partnership. One of the partners -- the one controlling the domain name -- apparently had issues. We tried to buy the site from him (complete with software and files intact) but he refused to talk to us. He also refused to talk to Joanne. A complete ****ole!

You can search for "Tubescan" on myspace. There is a profile page for Tubescan there. You might find some old friends there, too.

Re: Anyone remember Tubescan?

Here is some of what a whois brings up:
Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc.
Domain Name: TUBESCAN.COM
Created on: 24-Jul-98
Expires on: 22-Jul-08
Last Updated on: 26-Jun-07

Administrative Contact:
Schumacher, Kevin

Wonder if he will renew it in July? Not that it matters. All of the value of the domain has slowly been expunged from google and other search engines over time. That being said, I am sure there is still some residual traffic from back links, although the brand name has been severely diluted by being dead all these months.

Sounds like a raw deal for the other two partners. I guess it is a lesson learned. Next time create an LLC and register the domain in the name of the entity rather then the person. At least then there is some legal footing to stand on for all concerned. It is always friendly until something goes wrong, then you need contracts.

Here is the myspace link to what happened to Tubescan, in Joanne's words. I've met her and worked with her supporting the "Reality Cares" charity. She is a great person.

Wow, great article that really summed it all up. It would have taken all of an hour to purchase a cheap hosting plan, grab the mysql db, content folders and move it to a new home. I am sure with the 10,000 members, you could have found at least one geek (maybe hundreds) to volunteer their time to get things rolling. Hell, I would have done it.

Very sad indeed.
