Thumbs up Lost: Ep. 401 - The Beginning of the End

Lost

It's been over 12 hours since the airing of the fourth season premiere for Lost. Have we all had a chance to digest and ponder on what happened? I usually find that after you start talking to someone about the episode so many things become clearer. However, I can't help but feel cheated for not getting a 2 hour episode with new Lost moments. I won't complain too much since we are finally in the fourth season and I will try to be satisfied with that.

Let's follow the recap's lead and do this by character. Much more simplified.

First and foremost, Hugo.

One of the Oceanic Six. Meaning that we now know that 6 castaways leave the island. Jack, Kate, Hurley and three others. We also know that Hugo is not in that coffin...because he does not fit the description of not being a family member or friend of Jack's. I think it's a fair assumption that even in 5 years from now, Jack would consider Hurley a friend. And... we know that there are still survivors from Oceanic 815 on the island. The man posing as a lawyer from the airline, asked Hurley if they were still alive.

Hurley apologized to Jack (in the future) for going with Locke. Leading us to believe that something major happens on the island...and Locke being in cahoots with 'Jacob' may endanger all the people he thinks he's trying to save. But...then Hurley says that they need to go back and 'it' won't stop trying to make them until they do.

Oh and speaking of Jacob. Hurley heard him...and I believe, saw him. But, we'll ponder what that means later.

Now the question is...Is Hurley truly insane. Or is this just his way of escaping. Remember before the crash he spent time in an institution. I think he sees it a way of keeping himself away from others and vice versa. Or he could think he is insane. But I like to think he's like an ostrich who buries their head in the sand to avoid the realities of life. If he can't see it...then it really isn't happening.

I've decided that I'm just going to stick with analyzing Hurley... I've written enough so far and there is still more. I'll let others pick up on the rest of the characters.

I'm still scratching my head about Hurley's visits from Charlie. He's dead but he's there. But yet, still clearly a figment of something and not really there at all. Hurley closed his eyes and chanted you are not here...you are not here... and poof he was no longer there. So is he a ghost...or is he a messenger from Jacob??? I'm sure we will gain more insight in future episodes. At first, I thought for a glimmer of a second that he was alive. So I'm a bit sad, that he's not.

When Jack went to see Hurley, there was more alluding to something 'big' that happened on the island. Something to make the six swear not to speak of it to anyone. I'm thinking that the time line is not very long in this last episode...from the rescue to being home. I believe the intention of the writers was to get them off the island by the end of this season (meaning the 6). We saw that Hurley is just beginning to unravel...and Jack is still fine. So I think these flash forwards were within months of coming home.

Okay, I'm turning the floor over. I can ramble longer...but I need some interaction. So let's talk.

Hey Sof!

Good to see you.

I'm not sure who is waiting for Kate. Logically we assume the only other option is Sawyer. But it could be anyone really. Could be Brad Pitt... Kate's famous now and beautiful maybe she's an actress and stole him away from that luscious viper.

That would be something. lol

But, for now I'll go along with the assumption that it is Sawyer. If Hurley got off the island then maybe he did too.

Re: Lost: Ep. 401 - The Beginning of the End

Okay, so I never did watch a single episode of Lost because I missed the very first episode and I usually won't watch unless I get a chance to catch the premier so I never got the "Lost bug" but I have recently been very curious and interested in catching up on this show since it has always caught my curiosity...and now that there is this writers strike I am going to see about watching them all, so I also went to lostpedia.com and read up on a few random episodes...gotta admit it looks like an awesome show that I regret missing all this time.

Does anyone know where I can catch up online on past season, or should I just put them on the netflix queue?

Re: Lost: Ep. 401 - The Beginning of the End

The whole Oceanic 6 thing was pretty crazy to me, if the others are still alive then why haven't the 6 said anything to anyone? Why did Hurley lie when the cop asked him if he knew Anna Lucia? How does John Locke know anything/ and what does he know, about the people coming to the island?? Questions that i know everyone has and no one can answer but i love to hear the speculation..
Also i was checking out Lostpedia.com, since it has some really cool info and tons of stuff to look at about lost and i came across this interesting trivia..

"The biblical Aaron is the great-great-grandson of Jacob"

Now i am not a very religious person, and i dont really know the whole backstory on this, i just thought it was pretty interesting, and i feel as if it may have been done on purpose

Re: Lost: Ep. 401 - The Beginning of the End

I spent most of the day going through a lot of the theories.

Some of them are out there and some of them are damn plausible I am ashamed that I didn't think of them myself.

First let me address what I didn't catch in this episode.

Christian Sheppard!!!!

Jack's father was sitting in the rocking chair in Jacob's cabin. It was a split second, so I will forgive myself for not seeing clearly.

It's been proven with screen caps...and he was credited with a Guest Star role in this episode. Here is the screen cap...I'm not sure if it will come through or not, I'm not so savvy that way.

Now onto Spiced's comments:

A few weeks ago EW ran an interview with Matthew Fox, and he alluded to a pact the survivors made when they returned. That they would not speak about what happened on the island. I guess that means who is still on the island and what happened to them while they were there. They are leading us to believe that something big happened before they left.

There are many theories of who are the Oceanic 6, but we really won't know until it is revealed to us. But, we do know that Jack, Kate and Hurley are three of them. How Hurley went from Locke's camp to being rescued and why he now regrets going with Locke, is anyone's guess and I'm sure we'll find that out.

My thoughts about Locke, knowing about Charlie before he was told and all that stuff is his connection to Jacob. I know others out there that disagree, but I believe John was in Jacob's cabin and that's the eye Hurley saw through the window. It explains how Locke just happened to be there outside Jacob's cabin when Hurley was trying to convince himself that it wasn't really there. Jacob is the mystic being of the island so he'd know what happens on it. And that's how Locke knows. That's the only thing I can come up with given the evidence and clues thus far.

There are a lot of biblical references and theories going around and a lot of them sound very plausible. Like the fish... a whole lot of fish in this episode. The man that went to see Hurley..can't remember his name but it has biblical meaning as well. I wish I had taken note of it all when I was reading earlier...and I'm not going back to look for it. LOL

One thing that I do remember, is that someone pointed out the wording of Ben's warning to Jack. "Every LIVING person will be killed" he said this before Jack answered the phone. Why the emphasis on the living? Are some people dead and not knowing it?

I'm going to start a new thread for ongoing mysteries and theories...I don't want to lose it in the episode by episode discussions.
