They totally ignored the fans of yesteryear when the show was about more than trivial drama.

And another thing: When I heard that Austin won best season, I was so... let down. Really? I'd like to have all the people who voted for Austin watch Real World's Boston, San Francisco, New York 1, New Orleans, or Seattle and then tell me that Austin was better. (Because it was not.)

It's just sad to me that Mtv has virtually thrown away the rich history behind the show. (Side note: I just realized... I'm getting old.)

Roomie...i totally agree. HOWEVER, i LOVED their "Remembering Frankie and Pedro" sections. Those were very nice, and even gave me the chills at one point.

so sad

Aww Nick- I didn't watch the special, but hearing about that segment, I'll try and seek it out, if only to watch that little bit.

I've only been able to run through the show in fast motion so far and will watch it in full tomorrow (I hope). Did they show Randy from San Diego at ALL? I didn't see him once, but as I said, I went through in fast speed.
they did for like a split second, when they showed Brad for "Hottest Male", they zoomed to Kina and Randy cheering for Brad. Actually, Kina was shown way more than him and a lot of other Real Worlders, considering she's a Road Ruler.

The awards was kind of a trainwreck, but I still enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the clips that they showed.

My guess is that it was because Pedro was an AIDS activist and was essentially on the show to spread the message. By going into detail about his story and what he hoped to accomplish, they can keep doing his work even though he's gone, which I think is a beautiful thing. Frankie's passing was tragic, but she wasn't on the show to be a spokeswoman for cystic fibrosis.

Still, I see what you're saying--it was a bit jarring that they had a quick tribute to Frankie with no comments from any of her castmates and not even shots of them reacting to the tribute, and then a far longer tribute to Pedro who, while an amazing person, died more than ten years ago and has already been recognized at least once on a Real World reunion show. I would have liked to see a fuller, more thoughtful tribute to Frankie. I'm sure Jacquese, Robin, Randy, and even castmembers not in attendance would have taken time out of their schedules to sit down and talk about her for a tribute video. I mean, the Pedro video had me in tears even though he's been gone for so long, and Frankie just recently passed and her video wasn't long enough for me to muster up any emotion. Even though she wasn't an activist, she had an important message also, about living every day and tomorrow being a privilege. Sorry, this is long-winded, but I would have liked to see that handled better. At the very least, they could have shown the tributes at different times so that it wouldn't be so obvious that so much more time and thought went into Pedro's.

Re: The Real World Awards

i also like to add that Pedro seems pretty cool. (does anybody here have his season recorded they could loan me?)

its hard to believe he was 22. some of the cast members don't look their age on their season. know what i mean? sort of like the 16-18 year olds whobe on american idol. i thought alexandrea from season 7 was clearly in her 20s but she was only 17. get what i mean.

and yes frankie should've had a tribute video.
