I have an issue with the show, once again cause of the dominance of white males, the past couple of years. I will be fine with them winning, if they sold albums, or even if white male musicians dominated the charts. It's obvious the people voting for them in the show, don't consume their music.

It's really sad that the minute I saw Phillp audition I knew he was going to end up in the Top 2 at least, with a huge possibility of winning. There's a problem if the show becomes that predictable. What's the point of voting or investing in a contestant if I know a white guy is going to win, even if he isn't the best of his season (which has been the case by sales the past 4 seasons). The only wgwg I see that made a case for the title was David Cook, his post-idol career was badly manage, because he had potential (I still liked Archuleta better as a star potential).

America gets it wrong when the winners don't represent todays current stars. If the winner is going to be someone different, or different sound from what's popular in the charts (ex:Adele), that winner needs to be succesul or at least the most successful in his/her season, if they aren't America got it wrong.

The issue isn't who should win, or personal music taste, or even who's most likeable. The issue for me is that the same type of guy wins & dominates the show.
If you're going to complain that it's too predictable, then don't watch...

What did I tell you I was going to do of Phillip wins?

This is my favorite TV show ever, and Phillip winning sends me the message thaf it's time to stop watching, because the same generic person will win.

I get what you're saying producer88, and I agree with the predictability and the thing about PP (I can't see what people see in him either). But I still think AI is a success, if you're not just trying to find the next star, have that person win and go platinum. They still pull in a ton of ratings/advertising dollars and find several people per season who generate some amount of profit for the industry, so the net result seems like a win from my perspective. If I am somewhat entertained along the way (taking the bad lumps with the good), it's a net positive for me as well.

    1. Most of the Billboard Top 100 is so over-sampled and auto-tuned that I question how much singing talent really matters to the record industry or its customers.

    2. American Idol makes its money when the show is on by the ratings and by the downloads. What success anyone has afterwards is largely irrelevant to the franchise.

    3. To say that Phillip Phillips shouldn't win because he is white male is a pretty sad position. The guy has been battling renal failure which I understand is pretty excruciating but wants to stay on the show. There is nothing America likes more than someone with some charm, talent, and a sappy feel-good storyline. It makes great TV and the more people root for him, the more the show makes. The AI audience is vested in him and he will win.

    4. No matter how vocally solid a 16 year old is, they do not have the presence to be able to add authenticity to songs about anything other than puppy-love pop songs and Justin Bieber has that market cornered.

    5. Considering how many people vote against the show's ratings, it is not a stretch to say that the winners win because a portion of the audience is so into the show and the person that they go to insane lengths to cast a bazillion votes for their person. That makes the show a success regardless of who they vote for.

Who the heck said he shouldnt win because he is white? Nobody said that though the last 4-5 have been so. It just seems really suspect let alone the fact that he sucks anyway

It isn't suspect at all. You have to look at demographics (white teenage girls) who are they going to vote for?

Not saying I'm a teenage girl or anything but Phillip should win.
