I would say performance enhancing only, otherwise there might not be another show...and if there was it would proabably be pretty dull, LOL.

Anything illegal. How can one ask for anyhing less? It's in the contract now.

didn't I hear some stuff about some pot smoking on a challenge?? I think I heard about it on one of those DVD specials that netflix has...

Do they have to take drug tests before the show, or do you take thier word for it?

Well I remember Cameron saying (in a transcript from a college lecture) that on TRW San Diego some cast members used to always be jogging (which was code for: Run out the door, duck away from the cameras and light one up.)

So I would assume they use similar techniques on the Challenges.
