Re: Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Panama (2008)

I think I would like to comment further on the new cast revelations. As much as I protest that I would rather have any other warm bodies filling in the slots that Kenny and Evelyn occupy, they still make for interesting TV.

Without Coral or Beth making their presence felt this time around, the series is in need of sound bites and Kenny is a walking Tickle Me Elmo on crack. Even though he is an attention seeker with a bloated sense of self - he still drops the one liners that MTV likes to use to fill the action scene voice overs. Although nowhere near as entertaining as the above mentioned legends of the Challenge, this role needed to be filled by someone and he seems to be the right guy for job - even if everything about him is so very, very wrong.

Concerning Ev, I think "we" got off on the wrong foot during Fresh Meat. She solely blamed Danny for her ouster (which was true, but still!) and that gave me the immediate impression that she was not one to account for her own actions.

With Inferno III, she played a robotic fembot that was unfeeling and without punch.

It was with the premiere of Gauntlet III that I began to sense that she was a real person with real feelings, and not the female terminator. I know that the situation with Brooke was quite devastating to her and with the reunion special we got to see a side of Ev that previously lay dormant in the MTV editor's video vault. She seemed vulnerable and that allowed the viewers to peer for a moment into her soul. I actually liked what I saw.

Now I am not saying Ev is going to become a favorite of mine, but I will cut her a little slack and accept that she is going to be on the show (as probably the most physically dominant female competitor of all time.) I think that you all should do the same...

I'm guessing you prefer definition 4.

-- Distinctive qualities of a person, especially those distinguishing personal characteristics that make one socially appealing

I'm inclined to agree. Kenny is at his best, though, when he doesn't think he is God's personal gift to women. If he is just Kenny, without all the BS with which he has occasionally surrounded himself (like Evan), then he is very likeable and a fun guy for people to be around. It would be especially nice if he could demonstrate the essential qualities of a team player which one must first be before being a successful leader.

I do agree with everything you have said. Evelyn and Kenny make great television because people love to hate them.

Evelyn wasn't on Fresh Meat long enough to get a glimpse of her personality. The Inferno 3 we saw a bit of attitude but she was so robotic. The Gauntlet 3 we saw her true colors nd from that moment I knew I absolutely disliked her. We do need people to fill in the cast and they both will be interesting to see around completely new players, but like Bacchus said the Challenge legends are gone.

That is the one thing that the Challenge is missing but they do have lives outside of the Challenges. Kenny's one liners don't even touch the things that come out of Coral or Beth's mouths. Hell even Aneesa said damn funny things. I have never seen a funnier moment than when Aneesa went off on Cara.

I have to agree that she is the most physically dominant but I don't think she is the best female to be on a Challenge.
