Pushing Daisies: Season 2 - Discussion

I just finished watching the season premiere of Pushing Daisies and it looks like it picked up right where we left off last spring. However, I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. The Dr. Seuss world that we are being presented has lost a bit of its novelty and doesn't feel as striking as it once did.

Overall, the episode felt forced and didn't put enough on the plate to make me think that this show was going anywhere fast.

I'm still watching, but will only give it a few weeks more as there are other enticing options (like Life on Mars) on the horizon.

Ratings Update:

The second season-premiere of long awaited Pushing Daisies was left at the starting gate, with a fourth-place 6.32 million viewers and a 2.0/ 6 among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. One year earlier, Pushing Daisies launched with a considerably heftier at 13.03 million viewers and a 4.3/13 in the demo on Oct. 3, 2007. Do the math, and that’s a loss of 6.71 million viewers and 53 percent in the demo. Particularly negative for Pushing Daisies was a drop of 780,000 viewers (6.71 to 5.93 million) in the second half hour.

I thought I was the only one.

I'll agree with you here Bacchus (I know...it's rare so don't get too excited) but I hope that this one was just a dud and things get back to that magical place.

It wasn't a BAD episode....it was just EXACTLY the same. It needs to up the anty and change the rules of "the game". We need to find out more about Ned's ability and we need the storyline to progress.

I'll hang around to see if that happens though.

I agree. There is a lot of ways they could go with the Ned "ability" but they have not even touched on it as of yet, other then to say he has it. I'd like some back story as to why and I am hoping there are others out there like him.

Ok...so I want it to be a Technicolor Heroes. So?

Anyway, tonight better be good or I am out!

I gave it 15 minutes, practically fell asleep and then deleted the remainder of the episode (removing the timer from my DVR - forever.)

It is time for me to move on to bigger and better things as it will likely get canceled and I'd rather not commit. Let's not forget that the patience networks showed last year (strike season) will not be offered to weak performers this year. If something changes and it turns out great, I'll buy the DVD.

Woe is ABC. The network’s block of hourlong dramas — 8 p.m.’s Pushing Daisies, 9 p.m.’s Private Practice (pictured: Kate Walsh), and 10 p.m.’s Dirty Sexy Money — declined yet again last night from the previous week’s premiere numbers, which were already well below each show’s last-season average. According to preliminary ratings data, Daisies nabbed just 5.6 million viewers, down 11 percent from last week and 3.2 million short of last year’s average. Private Practice scored a little better, attracting 7.2 million, down 10 percent from last week and 2.5 million below its season 1 average. And DSM reeled in 6 million, a 17 percent decline from the premiere and 1.4 million fewer viewers than its debut-season average.
