Firefox 3: A Better Web Experience - Reasons to Switch

I mentioned earlier that I set up some new tracking software for the forum just to get a better idea of what type of trends were developing on Vevmo over time. Well lo and behold, very bad news right off the bat! 99% of people here and not using the latest version of firefox! Most are using Internet Exploder while there is a handful of others using older versions of Firefox (going back to 1.5) and Safari.

Time to wake up and jump on the bandwagon as I have no idea what this site even looks like in Internet Exploder, Surfing Safari or DinoFox! (Ok...that is a lie, but I avoid the bad, the bubbly and the old like the plague.)

That being said, I guess it is time to lay out a few reasons for making the switch (or upgrade) via lifehacker:

1. It's free. Completely, utterly free. You don't have to pay a penny to download it. Firefox is a product of the Mozilla foundation, a tax exempt non-profit foundation, which was established to create innovative open-source software. Mozilla is completely funded by donations. So if you like Firefox—and I bet you will—consider throwing a few dollars in their direction.
2. It runs on everything. Windows? Yes. Macs? Yes. Linux? Yes. You've got a recent computer? Firefox will almost certainly run on it.
3. It's small. It takes up very little disk space, so it's a quick, simple download. Unlike certain other browsers, it's not a bloated dinosaur.
4. It's expandable. You can add almost any functionality you want via plug-ins. There's a huge community of Firefox developers out there offering nifty software extensions that you just plug into your browser. You can remove Google spam. You can adjust the way your fonts are shown. You can watch the current weather forecast. Firefox's extensions manager lets you see what items you've installed and you can remove them with just a few clicks.
5. It's secure. Firefox doesn't run ActiveX components or VB script. This makes it far less vulnerable to malicious hacking than Explorer. Also, it's been tightly coded, meaning fewer vulnerabilities to attack. Want more security? Consider adding a JavaScript monitoring extension.
6. Switching is easy. Firefox is smart enough to help you transfer your existing bookmarks, cookies and other settings from your current browser when you install.
7. It's skinnable. Firefox's look and feel is completely customizable. Use the Themes Manager to download and manage any of hundreds of skins.
8. Google is built-in. You don't have to waste your homepage on Google, when you can search directly from the Firefox control bar. Go ahead and pick a home page you really like. Personally? I recommend Vevmo.com.
9. It's well respected. Firefox has been named PC World's Product of the Year, Softpedia's User's Choice, Forbes' Best of the Web, SC Magazine's "Editor in Chief" award, CNET Editor's Choice, Laptop Magazine Editor's Choice, PC-Welt's Readers Choice Best Internet Tool, and more. They all like it. Won't you?
10. It's got tabs. If you've ever dealt with a gadzillion open Explorer windows at once, you'll know what I mean when I say that organizing your Web tasks and windows is a critical path for getting work done. Firefox's tabbed interface allows you to collapse all those windows onto a single screen and move quickly (and easily) back and forth between your different Web site "worlds". One site still downloading? Just tab on over to another in the meantime. It works beautifully, compactly and neatly.

Those sound like good reasons to me! Make the switch. Free your mind and your computer!

Download it now!

Why the wait? Not like it is surgery, lol.
Still, I guess the fact that you are indeed updating is worth something. My goal is to have 50% of people on Vevmo using firefox.

I run with all sorts of addons, but many are developer type things.

Here is a quick 5 to get started.

1. Adblock Plus (Not to be used on vevmo mind you! lol)
2. FireGestures
3. GMAIL Manager
4. DownloadThemAll!
5. Fliterset.G Updater

Oh and maybe sweet mac skin.

Actually I better explain.

1. Gets rid of all ads
2. Allows you to do keyboard things with the mouse (like right click move left goes back a page, etc)
3. Lets you manage gmail accounts via firefox. Gives you email alerts, et al.
4. Lets you download every object on a page of whatever type you choose (i.e. pictures, movies, mp3's) and puts them all in a folder you specify. This is great for...er...well...moving on!
5. Updates Adblock to get the latest ad spam out there.
