The Andromeda Strain (2008)

Is anyone going to watch 'Andromeda Strain' tonight? I loved the book and the original movie. I can't wait to see how it looks updated to modern cinematic standards.

The Andromeda Strain is a 2008 science-fiction miniseries, very loosely based on the novel published in 1969 by Michael Crichton about a team of scientists who investigate a deadly disease of extraterrestrial origin. The miniseries will be made up of 2 two-hour episodes on A&E starting Memorial Day at 9 PM ET on A&E.

Part II tonight! Although very loosely based on the book with all sorts of unneeded whizzbang theatrics, I am still enjoying it.

Obviously I am the only Sci-Fi/Michael Crichton fan in these parts.

He is probably the predominant science fiction writer of the second half of this century (i.e. Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, Sphere.)

Michael Crichton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Truth be told, the mini-series strayed miles from the book and the original movie. They added too much to try and make it hip and took away much of the core which made it siblings riveting.

I think it could have been a much better movie with the star power and technical prowess they had at their disposal if they'd been truer to form and stayed with the spirit of the original material.

I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan myself, but I tend to prefer "space opera," with David Weber and Elizabeth Moon at the top of my sci-fi author list.
